The Lincoln College Women’s Basketball Team improved to 5-0 on the
season over the weekend with wins over Kishwaukee College and Black
Hawk College.
Friday evening at Jack D. Nutt Arena the Lady Lynx blew out
Kishwaukee College 106-17. Lincoln had seven players in double
figures with Kaleia Monteiro (Rockford, IL) leading the way scoring
20 points. Monteiro also pulled down 15 rebounds in the win.
Saturday afternoon at Jack D. Nutt Arena the Lady Lynx dominated
Black Hawk College from the tip-off. Lincoln had a 36-26 halftime
lead over the Braves. The Lady Lynx turned it up a notch in the
second half and put up 50 points on the scoreboard to come away with
the 86-49 victory.
Lincoln Head Coach Matt Vavro was pleased with his team’s
performance and said following the win Saturday, "I thought the
girls played hard in the first half, which I like, but we missed
about 7-10 shots within like five feet. We were up ten and we very
well easily could have been up by twenty. We kind of kept them
(Black Hawk) in the game at halftime, so I emphasized to slow down,
take your time a little bit and finish. I thought our defense and
intensity really picked up in the third quarter and defense led into
offense and we got into transition and opened the game up a bit. We
got up by 25, so the defense created some offense in the second
half. That was big.”
Erynn Young (Indianapolis, IN scores
two of her 24 points on
Saturday afternoon
at Jack D. Nutt Arena. Young led all scorers as the Lady Lynx
defeated Black Hawk College 86-49 in front of a Homecoming crowd
Erynn Young had a great game Saturday afternoon and many of the fans
in the stands were buzzing about the 6’0 sophomore’s performance. "Erynn
played well,” said Coach Vavro. "She had a good overall game. When
she gets the ball in the open court, she is hard to stop.”
