							Obituary 
							 
							Thomas J. Romer, 85, of Mount 
							Pulaski, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 
							28, 2017 in Decatur. 
							 
							Tom was born on August 31, 1932 at St. Clara’s 
							Hospital in Lincoln, to Roman C. and Dorothy (Davis) 
							Romer and is a graduate of Mount Pulaski High School 
							and Western Illinois University. He is survived by 
							his sons Thomas Romer of Mount Pulaski, and Timothy 
							(Bethany) Romer of Heyworth, and his two grandsons 
							Timmy and Alex Romer. 
							 
							Tom is also survived by his siblings, Joan Suycott 
							of Verona, WI, Roman “Jim” Romer of Springfield, 
							Steve “Kibby” Romer of Dillon, CO. Richard “Dick” 
							(Barbara) Romer of Springfield,and Joe (Emily) Romer 
							of Pinecliffe, CO. 
							 
							Tom married Marietta McCue of Elkhart, on September 
							26, 1966 and was happily married to her until her 
							passing on June 30, 2013. Tom is also preceded in 
							death by his parents, infant son John, sister Lynne 
							Baylis and brother Robert “Bob” Romer.

							After high school, Tom served in the 
							United States Navy from 1952-1956. Tom was a proud 
							citizen of Mount Pulaski and was an active member 
							and one time commander of the American Legion Post 
							#447 and served several terms on the Mount Pulaski 
							School Board. He was also an Eagle Scout. An avid 
							supporter of the arts, Tom played trumpet in area 
							community bands and was instrumental in reviving the 
							Mount Pulaski Community Band. He was a lifelong 
							member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church. He was 
							most proud of his Dixie band The Vinegar Hill Brass. 
							Tom also loved the Chicago Cubbies and passed this 
							passion down to his sons.  
							 
							Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday 
							November 2, 2017 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral 
							Home in Mount Pulaski. A rosary will be recited at 
							3:15 p.m. prior to visitation. The funeral will be 
							held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at 
							St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Mount Pulaski. 
							Burial will follow at Mount Pulaski Cemetery where 
							full military rites will be accorded. 
							 
							In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central 
							Illinois Down Syndrome c/o Team Alex Romer, The 
							American Alzheimer’s Association, American Legion 
							Post #447, or Mount Pulaski Community Band.
