10/03/2017 NFL Note - Green Bay Packers Montgomery, Ty
RB Ty Montgomery admitted that he is nursing multiple broken ribs
heading into this weekend's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Montgomery was injured in the first quarter of Thursday's 35-14
victory over the Chicago Bears. "I'm going to do my best to try to
be out there (against the Cowboys)," the 24-year-old converted wide
receiver said on USA Today's Clubhouse Live. "But of course, I have
to be wary of risking something more serious. I don't want to
puncture any internal organs. We all know how serious that can be.
... It is what it is. But I will say that (the ribs) are broken.
Multiple. And I'll be fine. I'm feeling a lot better than I felt on
Thursday. I can laugh now, I can sleep now. My movement's fine. It's
just a matter of, is it going to be safe enough for me to be out
there and not risk internal injury? That's the conversation I'm
trying to have now."

NFL Note - Carolina Panthers Coleman, Kurt
S Kurt Coleman could be sidelined as long as a month after
sustaining a left MCL sprain, the team announced. Coleman was
injured during the second quarter of Sunday's 33-30 victory at the
New England Patriots. The 29-year-old walked off the field under his
own power, but did not return.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Carolina Panthers Byrd, Jairus
S Jairus Byrd was signed by the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday. Byrd
was released in March, three years after signing a six-year, $54
million contract with the New Orleans Saints. The 30-year-old played
three seasons with the Saints (2014-16) after spending the previous
five with the Buffalo Bills (2009-13). A three-time Pro Bowl
selection Jairus Byrd recorded 546 tackles, 25 interceptions, 14
forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries in 106 career games with
the Bills and Saints.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Carolina Panthers Byrd, Damiere
WR Damiere Byrd was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. Byrd
sustained a broken arm during Sunday's game versus the Patriots.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Pittsburgh Steelers Roethlisberger, Ben
QB Ben Roethlisberger labeled WR Antonio Brown's sideline outburst
as "unfortunate" and wished the wide receiver talked to him
personally following the play in Sunday's game against the Baltimore
Ravens. "That goes a lot further than throwing a temper tantrum,"
Roethlisberger said on his weekly radio spot with 93.7 the Fan.
Roethlisberger elected to target running back Le'Veon Ball on a play
that also saw Brown left unguarded following a double move. The play
resulted in an incomplete pass for the Steelers and a battered
Gatorade bucket, courtesy of an angered Brown.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Houston Texans Weeden, Brandon
QB Brandon Weeden agreed to terms on a contract with the Tennessee
Titans, multiple outlets reported on Tuesday. The move comes two
days after starter Marcus Mariota sustained a strained hamstring in
a 57-14 loss to the Houston Texans. While Mariota is considered
"day-to-day" by coach Mike Mularkey, the Titans (2-2) were quick to
add depth behind backup Matt Cassel. Weeden, who was a former
first-round pick (22nd overall) by the Cleveland Browns, last played
in the NFL in 2015 with the Houston Texans. Houston claimed Weeden
after he was cut by the Dallas Cowboys, with whom he played four
games earlier in that season. Weeden, who will turn 34 in two weeks,
was released by the Texans last month before the season started.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Chicago Bears Trevathan, Danny
LB Danny Trevathan had his two-game suspension for a hit to the head
of Packers WR Davante Adams last Thursday reduced to one after an
appeal. Trevathan hit Adams in the head on a tackle with roughly
four minutes left in the third quarter of the Bears' 35-14 loss.
Adams was stretchered off the field. "I regret the level I hit him
at," Trevathan told reporters after the game. "But you got to
understand I had momentum, and I was just trying to make a play."
The 27-year-old has 29 tackles and one pass defensed through four
games in 2017.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Tampa Bay Buccaneers Winston, Jameis
QB Jameis Winston passed for 332 yards and three touchdowns without
any interceptions in a 25-23 win over the Giants last Sunday. It's
the first time in his 35 NFL games that he's topped 300 yards, had
at least three TD passes and hasn't thrown an interception. Pulling
off all three isn't easy -- the Bucs and Winston still have games
this season against the three active quarterbacks with the most such
games: Saints QB Drew Brees has 32, Patriots QB Tom Brady, who plays
the Bucs on Thursday, has 28, and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has 23.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ward, T.J.
S T.J. Ward, who did not play against the Giants Sunday due to a hip
injury, was limited in practice on Tuesday.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Tampa Bay Buccaneers David, Lavonte
LB Lavonte David has a severe ankle sprain and did not practice
Tuesday. He is not expected to play against the Patriots.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Tampa Bay Buccaneers Alexander, Kwon
LB Kwon Alexander, who did not play the last two games due to a
hamstring injury, did not practice Tuesday and is unlikely to play
against the Patriots.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Tampa Bay Buccaneers Evans, Justin
S Justin Evans played well after replacing Keith Tandy in a win over
the Giants Sunday and could have a significant role in Thursday's
game.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tandy, Keith
S Keith Tandy has a hip injury and did not finish Sunday's game
against the Giants. He did not practice on Tuesday.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New England Patriots Rowe, Eric
CB Eric Rowe (groin) missed practice for the second straight day. He
reinjured the groin on the second play of the third quarter of
Sunday's loss to the Panthers and is very unlikely to play on
Thursday night in Tampa.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New England Patriots Solder, Nate
T Nate Solder was absent from the practice field on Tuesday as the
Patriots went through a walk-through to prepare for the Thursday
night trip to Tampa Bay. The absence was not injury related,
according to the team.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New England Patriots Burkhead, Rex
RB Rex Burkhead (ribs) remains limited in practice, having missed
the last two games to the injury.
-----------------------------------------------
[to top of second column] |
NFL Note - New England Patriots Cannon, Marcus
T Marcus Cannon (ankle) remains limited in practice though he
returned to the starting lineup last Sunday after missing a week to
a concussion.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New England Patriots Gilmore, Stephon
CB Stephon Gilmore (ankle) was limited in practice for the second
straight day.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New England Patriots Hightower, Dont'a
LB Dont'a Hightower (knee) continues to be limited in practice
despite his return to the field on Sunday after missing two-plus
games to the injury.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New England Patriots King, Brandon
S Brandon King (hamstring) remains limited in practice after missing
last Sunday's loss to the Panthers to the injury.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New England Patriots Roberts, Elandon
LB Elandon Roberts (ankle) returned to practice on a limited basis
on Tuesday after being listed as did not practice on Monday with the
injury suffered a day earlier against the Panthers.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New England Patriots Slater, Matthew
WR Matthew Slater (hamstring) remains limited in practice with the
injury that dates back to the first days of training camp practice
and has caused him to miss the first four games of the season.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Washington Redskins Hall, DeAngelo
S DeAngelo Hall (torn ACL) can't practice or play until at least
after Week 6, but the Redskins could probably use him soon.
Remember, Su'a Cravens, the expected starting strong safety, was put
on the reserve/left squad list last month and can't return this
season. That was a shocking blow. Safeties Montae Nicholson
(sprained AC joint) and Deshazor Everett (hamstring) have been
playing hurt for a few games now. Stefan McClure, an undrafted
college free agent in 2016 who played at California and was a
surprise addition to the 53-man roster out of training camp, was on
the field for 12 key snaps in the second half. They could use Hall
soon - if his body is ready. Hall tore his ACL in Week 3 last season
against the New York Giants.
"DeAngelo is getting healthier," head coach Jay Gruden said. "There
is a time frame we have to wait, but he is working out and doing
what he needs to do to get his body right."
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Washington Redskins Doctson, Josh
WR Josh Doctson hurt his shoulder on the final offensive play of the
game for Washington when he landed hard and couldn't quite finish
what would have been a spectacular catch for the go-ahead touchdown.
He is listed as day-to-day.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Washington Redskins Reed, Jordan
TE Jordan Reed (chest contusion) was held to 16 snaps against Kansas
City in large part because he couldn't participate in any run plays.
Reed was limited to three-receiver sets and obvious passing downs,
but he is expected to be closer to full strength after the bye week
and ready for more playing time.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Washington Redskins Smith, Preston
OLB Preston Smith continues to impress - even if he did have a
critical offside penalty in Monday's loss to Kansas City. Smith
recorded a sack for the fourth consecutive week. His four sacks are
0.5 below last year's total and he's put himself in position to top
his rookie year production (eight sacks) in 2015.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Washington Redskins Ioannidis, Matt
DT Matt Ioannidis continues to be the most improved player on the
roster. A fifth-round pick in 2016 out of Temple, Ioannidis didn't
even make the 53-man roster out of training camp last year. But the
second-year pro has 1.5 sacks in four games and has generated
consistent pressure up the middle. He didn't record a sack at all in
10 games as a rookie.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Kansas City Chiefs Duvernay-Tardif, Laurent
RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif left Monday night's win over Washington
with a sprained left knee. The third-year lineman expected to
undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the damage. The
initial diagnosis of a sprained MCL could keep Duvernay-Tardif out
for a couple of weeks.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Kansas City Chiefs Ragland, Reggie
LB Reggie Ragland received his first NFL regular-season start Monday
night, playing 21 snaps (42 percent). The Chiefs acquired Ragland
from Buffalo via trade in August. The second-year linebacker missed
his rookie season last year with a torn ACL. Head coach Andy Reid
said the team wanted to give Ragland an opportunity, saying he
brings good leadership and a physical presence to the team's
interior defense.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Kansas City Chiefs Ehinger, Parker
LG Parker Ehinger continues practicing in full in his return from a
torn ACL suffered last October, and injuries along the team's
offensive line could push Ehinger back in the lineup sooner than
later.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Kansas City Chiefs Witzmann, Bryan
OL Bryan Witzmann, who continues filling in at left guard in Parker
Ehinger's absence, played his best game of the season against
Washington, according to head coach Andy Reid. If Ehinger returns
this week, Witzmann could be a candidate to fill in at right in the
absence of Laurent Duvernay-Tardif or fill in as the team's primary
swing tackle. Witzmann's recent experience at guard provides
additional versatility as a utility lineman.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Kansas City Chiefs Fisher, Eric
LT Eric Fisher entered Monday's game questionable after missing
practice all last week with back spasms. Fisher started the game,
however, and played all 76 offensive snaps.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Kansas City Chiefs Wilson, Ramik
LB Ramik Wilson, who started the first three games as the team's
Mike linebacker alongside Derrick Johnson in the team's base 3-4
defense, played just four special teams snaps against Washington.
