10/10/2017 NFL Note - New England Patriots Brady, Tom
QB Tom Brady (left shoulder injury) missed practice Tuesday but is
expected to play in the team's Week 6 game against the Jets on
Sunday. Brady has undergone tests for the injury but is expected
play through it, sources told ESPN. The 40-year-old quarterback has
been hit 32 times and sacked 16 times this season, including six
times in the last two weeks.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Philadelphia Eagles Cox, Fletcher
DT Fletcher Cox, who missed last week's game with a calf injury, was
listed as a full participant in Tuesday's practice. But it was a
very light session. It still is uncertain whether he'll play
Thursday. The Eagles hope to make a decision on Wednesday. The
Eagles seemed focused on getting him back for their Week 7 game
against Washington. But if he's healthy, the All-Pro defensive
tackle would give them a big boost against the 4-1 Panthers.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Philadelphia Eagles Johnson, Lane
RT Lane Johnson didn't practice Tuesday. He is recovering from a
concussion suffered in Sunday's game against Arizona and isn't
expected to clear concussion protocol before the game.
Halapoulivaati Vaitai will start in his place.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - San Francisco 49ers Hall, Leon
CB Leon Hall was signed to a one-year deal, the 49ers announced
Tuesday. Hall, 32, played with the New York Giants last season after
spending nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He played in 12
games for the Giants in 2016, and made two starts while collecting
one interception. Hall has appeared in 121 NFL games, including 105
starts, during his career and has 26 interceptions. Hall also made
four postseason starts for the Bengals, and he returned one
interception for a touchdown.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Arizona Cardinals Johnson, Chris
RB Chris Johnson was released by the Arizona Cardinals after the
team acquired Adrian Peterson from the New Orleans Saints. Johnson,
32, was leading the team in carries (45) and rushing yards (114) for
a paltry 2.5-yard average.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Philadelphia Eagles Cox, Fletcher
DT Fletcher Cox of the Philadelphia Eagles was a full participant in
Tuesday's practice after sitting out the last two games with a calf
injury. Cox, who was listed as limited in Monday's walk-through
session, told reporters that he was uncertain if he would play for
the Eagles (4-1) in Thursday's game against the Carolina Panthers
(4-1). The All-Pro injured his calf late in the second quarter of a
27-24 win over the New York Giants on Sept. 24.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Arizona Cardinals Peterson, Adrian
RB Adrian Peterson was acquired by the Arizona Cardinals from the
New Orleans Saints for a conditional draft pick, the team announced
on Tuesday. "I'm so ecstatic," Peterson texted NFL Network's Stacey
Dales after hearing of the trade. Peterson fell behind both Mark
Ingram and rookie Alvin Kamara in the Saints' backfield. Ingram is
leading the team in both carries (42) and rushing yards (170) while
Kamara is averaging 5.5 yards per carry to go along with 20 catches
for 147 receiving yards. A 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player and
seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Peterson has turned 27 carries into
just 81 rushing yards in four games this season with the Saints.
Peterson spent his first 10 years in the NFL with the Minnesota
Vikings before his option was not picked up by the club on Feb. 28.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Chicago Bears Timu, John
LB John Timu suffered a knee injury and left the game in the second
half. More will be known on the status of Timu later in the week.
Losing Timu was a big blow to the defense as he was playing for
suspended starter Danny Trevathan, and was calling defensive
signals. It left Christian Jones calling signals, and when Jonathan
Anderson came on the field as Timu's replacement, the Vikings began
working the short passing game and picking at Bears linebackers.
Trevathan returns to his regular spot this week, but a lengthy
injury for Timu further depletes a thin roster spot. The Bears have
Jerrell Freeman (pectoral muscle) on injured reserve and Nick
Kwiatkoski is week-to-week with a pectoral injury.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Chicago Bears Young, Willie
LB Willie Young did not play or practice on Friday and Saturday
because of a triceps injury that requires surgery. He was placed on
injured reserve Tuesday. Without Young, Leonard Floyd took 93
percent of the snaps and Pernell McFee had 64 percent, while Sam
Acho was on for 41 percent.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Chicago Bears Irving, Isaiah
LB Isaiah Irving was brought up from the practice squad due to
Willie Young's injury. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder had seven sacks
last year at San Jose State.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Chicago Bears Cooper, Marcus
CB Marcus Cooper (back) missed the game with an injury suffered on
Saturday in practice. His status for this week's game with Baltimore
is uncertain. Cooper had been splitting time in the lineup with
cornerbacks Prince Amukamara and Kyle Fuller.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Arizona Cardinals Brewer, Aaron
LS Aaron Brewer (wrist) was placed on injured reserve by the Arizona
Cardinals.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Arizona Cardinals Drescher, Justin
LS Justin Drescher was signed by the Arizona Cardinals to replace
injured Aaron Brewer. Drescher spent the past seven seasons with the
Saints before being released on Aug. 30.

NFL Note - Carolina Panthers Funchess, Devin
WR Devin Funchess of the Carolina Panthers was held out of Tuesday's
practice with a knee injury. Funchess is two days removed from
reeling in a team-high seven receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown
in Carolina's 27-24 win over the Detroit Lions. The 23-year-old
Funchess has 14 catches for 123 yards and three touchdowns in the
past two weeks and leads all Panthers' wideouts with 24 receptions
on the season.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New York Giants Beckham Jr., Odell
WR Odell Beckham Jr. underwent season-ending surgery for a broken
left ankle, the team announced Tuesday. The Giants said Beckham
underwent the surgery on Monday night. Beckham, who was placed on
injured reserve on Monday, was one of four receivers injured in
Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New York Giants Harris, Dwayne
WR Dwayne Harris, who is also the Giants' kickoff and punt return,
will undergo season-ending foot surgery. He also was placed on
injured reserve on Monday.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New York Giants Marshall, Brandon
WR Brandon Marshall (ankle) is slated to undergo surgery. Marshall
said on his Instagram account that his surgery will also be a
season-ending procedure.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Carolina Panthers Worley, *Daryl
CB Daryl Worley has missed practice time this week with an ankle
injury, but head coach Ron Rivera said Tuesday he'll likely play
Thursday night against the Eagles. He left Sunday's game briefly
before returning.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Carolina Panthers Jones, Colin
S Colin Jones might seem like a role player a lot of times for the
Panthers, but he made his first start of the season in the Detroit
game as S Kurt Coleman is expected to miss at least a month. Jones,
who normally has a role on special teams, has now started at least
one game in four consecutive seasons.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Carolina Panthers McCaffrey, *Christian
RB Christian McCaffrey leads the Panthers with 27 catches this
season. But the one he'll remember most so far went for a 6-yard
touchdown at Detroit as the rookie scored his first points in the
NFL.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Carolina Panthers Dickson, Ed
TE Ed Dickson not only suddenly became productive with his 175-yard
receiving outing at Detroit, but he remained durable. He has played
in 71 consecutive games, sharing the third-longest streak among
active tight ends.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Ridley, Stevan
RB Stevan Ridley, who was signed early last week after Dalvin Cook
went on injured reserve, was released on Monday. The Vikings will
continue looking for running back depth this week.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Floyd, Michael
WR Michael Floyd, who was suspended for the first four games for
violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, was activated on Monday.
He had a holding penalty to negate a first-down catch by Adam
Thielen. But he atoned for it a couple plays later with a nice
19-yard sideline grab for a first down.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings McKinnon, Jerick
RB Jerick McKinnon had 197 all-purpose yards in one of the best
games of his career. He had 95 yards rushing and a touchdown on 16
carries, 51 yards on six receptions and 51 yards on two kickoff
returns. With Dalvin Cook out and Latavius Murray underachieving,
McKinnon will have a key role the rest of the season, barring
injury, of course.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Diggs, Stefon
WR Stefon Diggs, who went into Week 5 as the NFL's leader in
receiving yards (391), was held to four yards on just one catch. He
was targeted four times. Diggs suffered a groin injury at some point
during the game. The Vikings will update his status on Wednesday.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Griffen, Everson
DE Everson Griffen notched his sixth sack of the season. And it came
at a time when the offense had mustered only 29 yards in 28 minutes.
Griffen stipped the ball from Mitchell Trubisky, giving the Vikings
the ball at the Chicago 13. That led to a field goal and a 3-2
halftime lead.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Kearse, *Jayron
S Jayron Kearse didn't play because of a groin injury suffered in
practice last week. He was missed on special teams, where his
replacement, cornerback Tramaine Brock, made several errors,
including a holding penalty on a punt return.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Easton, Nick
LG Nick Easton suffered a calf injury in Sunday's game. It doesn't
appear to be serious. Head coach Mike Zimmer said the team will have
an update when the injury report comes out Wednesday.
