In singles, Grace Skelton lost to a Metamora
player, 6-1, 6-2, and Madlen Tanner lost a close 7-6(5), 6-4 to
her Eureka opponent.
In doubles, the team of Mary Toal/Maggie Hanger lost 6-3, 6-0 to
Bloomington High School, and Alice Roate/Madelyn Koehler lost
6-4, 6-3 to their East Peoria opponents.
Coach Jan Dickerson commented, “I was, of course, hoping for a
couple wins, and we were close on two matches. It’s a very tough
Sectional, and it’s hard to see those close ones get away,
especially since this has happened the last two weeks of the
season. The team lost 5-4 to Decatur MacArthur, and 6-3 to each
of East Peoria and Limestone. In each of those dual matches,
there were several 7-5 sets; if just one or two had gone the
other way, it would have made a big difference in the win/loss
columns. At Rochester before that, Lincoln played four match
tiebreaks, and three went to Rochester. But, I have seen some of
our players really do their best, and show greatly improved play
and shot selection in their last few matches.”
