Highlights from Tuesday's NHL games

[October 18, 2017] (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights from National Hockey League games on Tuesday:

Golden Knights 5, Sabres 4

The expansion Vegas Golden Knights won again Tuesday night, beating the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 in overtime after blowing a three-goal, third-period lead.

David Perron's second goal of the game, with 1:08 left in overtime, gave the Golden Knights (5-1-0) the victory. Rookie Alex Tuch highlighted the win, scoring his second goal in as many games after he was recalled from the AHL Chicago Wolves last weekend. James Neal had two assists, and Oscar Lindberg and Reilly Smith also scored goals. Malcolm Subban finished with 30 saves.

Ryan O'Reilly scored two goals for the Sabres, and Evander Kane and Sam Reinhart had a goal each. Chad Johnson allowed four goals on 30 shots.

Sharks 5, Canadiens 2

Logon Couture had two goals and two assists, Martin Jones made 28 saves, and San Jose defeated Montreal for the 11th straight time at the Shark Tank.

Joe Pavelski, Tomas Hertl and Joe Thornton also scored for the Sharks in the finale of a season-opening, five-game homestand.

Jonathan Drouin and Shea Weber scored for the Canadiens, who haven't won in San Jose since Nov. 23, 1999. The Canadiens lost their fifth straight game overall.

Maple Leafs 2, Capitals 0

Connor Brown broke a scoreless tie early in the third period, Frederik Andersen stopped 30 shots, and Toronto defeated Washington.

Toronto began the day leading the NHL with an average of 5.2 goals per game, and Washington was ninth (3.67), but the teams produced nearly 46 minutes of scoreless hockey.

Andersen posted his 11th career shutout. He entered the game with a 3.76 goals-against average.

Braden Holtby stopped 28 shots for the Capitals, who have lost four of their last five.

Flyers 5, Panthers 1

Claude Giroux, Valtteri Filppula and defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere each recorded a goal and an assist in Philadelphia's victory over Florida.

Michael Neuvirth stopped 40 shots to earn his first win of the season for the Flyers.

Sean Couturier and Dale Weise also scored for the Flyers while Jamie McGinn netted a power-play goal for the Panthers.

Penguins 5, Rangers 4 (overtime)

Evgeni Malkin scored 58 seconds into overtime to give Pittsburgh a come-from-behind, victory against New York.

Sidney Crosby scored with 55.3 seconds remaining in regulation for the Penguins to force overtime, backhanding a puck from behind the goal line that bounced off goalie Henrik Lundqvist and into the net.

Phil Kessel, Carl Hagelin and Patric Hornqvist also scored for the Penguins. Matt Murray made 28 saves.

David Desharnais, Pavel Buchnevich, J.T. Miller and Michael Grabner had the Rangers' goals. Lundqvist stopped 28 shots for New York.

Canucks 3, Senators 0

Anders Nilsson made 32 saves in his first game for Vancouver a shutout of Ottawa.

Brock Boeser and Alexander Burmistrov each had a goal and an assist for the Canucks. Thomas Vanek rounded out the scoring with a breakaway goal at the 15:12 mark of the third.

Craig Anderson stopped 21 shots for the Senators.

Devils 5, Lightning 4 (shootout)

Drew Stafford scored twice, including the game-tying goal late in the third period, and Kyle Palmieri had the only goal of the shootout as surprising New Jersey rallied for a victory over Tampa Bay.

The win was the second straight for the Devils, who snapped a four-game winning streak for the Lightning.

Steven Stamkos had a season-high three points with a goal and two assists for the Lightning, and teammate Nikita Kucherov scored his eighth goal and added an assist. Both players have at least one point in all seven games this season.

Predators 4, Avalanche 1

Roman Josi scored the go-ahead goal and added an assist in Nashville's victory over Colorado.

Colton Sissons, Austin Watson and Viktor Arvidsson also scored for the Predators.

Nathan MacKinnon scored the only Avalanche goal.

Stars 3, Coyotes 1

Radek Faksa and Dan Hamhuis had a goal and an assist each, and Ben Bishop stopped 27 of 28 shots for Dallas in a win against Arizona.

Alexander Radulov also scored for the Stars, who won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Jason Demers had the lone goal for the Coyotes, who remain the lone winless team in the NHL.

Blue Jackets 5, Jets 2

Columbus used a smothering forecheck and backcheck to beat Winnipeg into submission.

Goals by Nick Foligno, Cam Atkinson, Jack Johnson, Lukas Sedlak and Zach Werenski help the Blue jackets improve to 5-1 on the season. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 24 of 26 shots to post his first victory of the season.

Kyle Connor and Joel Armia scored for the Jets. Steve Mason got in front of 34 of 39 shots at the other end of the ice in taking the loss for the third time this year.

Hurricanes 5, Oilers 3

Carolina's Cam Ward outdueled Edmonton's Laurent Brossoit with 48 saves in a victory.

Ward got his support on a pair of goals from Teuvo Teravainen and singles from Elias Lindholm, Jordan Staal and defenseman Jaccob Slavin.

The Oilers got goals from Mark Letestu, Ryan Strome and Milan Lucic, but Brossoit gave up five goals on 21 shots.
