Lincoln Daily News
welcomes letters of appreciation, information and
opinion on matters pertaining to the community.
Controversial issues:
As a
community we need to be able to talk openly about
matters that affect the quality of our lives. The
most effective and least offensive manner to get
your point across is to stick to the issue
and refrain from commenting on another person's
opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the
issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

To the editor: Columbine,
Virginia Tech, Aurora, Sandy Hook, Charleston, San Bernadino,
Orlando, and now Las Vegas. All "soft targets". All American
shooters yet we fear infiltration of Isis terrorists.
There was the "shoe bomber" and we tightened airport security; kids
could remove prescription caps so we tightened the lids so tight
most adults can't open them; some kids were injured by lawn darts,
so we legislated against their sale.
Laws need to outlaw the sale of not only "bump stocks" but all
assault weapons. Those weapons are made for one purpose-to kill
people. We need laws against unlicensed gun shows and online
purchase of weapons. We need to outlaw the sell of police killer
bullets. We need waiting periods before the purchase of weapons,
just like women seeking an abortion have to have a waiting period.
We need mental health screenings.
So much needs to be done but they say "now is not the time". For
crying out loud, when is the right time to stop these heinous
shootings?
[to top of second column in this letter] |
Farriers, hairdressers, psychologists, dog groomers
have to have licenses but to sell or purchase deadly weapons-NO.
We need to insist that gun owners must carry liability insurance
against any victims of shootings. More gun deaths, other than mass
shootings, are children from guns in the home.
I know, I know, I know that gun owners will insist they need their
guns to protect their homes. But you don't need an assault weapon!
Call Darin LaHood now: 202) 225-6201 in DC or 217) 670-1653 in
Springfield for new gun restrictions now.
Thank you,
