Highlights of Tuesday's NHL games

[October 25, 2017] (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of National Hockey League games on Tuesday:

Golden Knights 4, Blackhawks 2

Rookie Oscar Dansk, Vegas' third goaltender in only its eighth game, helped keep the expansion Golden Knights' dream start going in a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena.

Dansk, making his first career NHL start, finished with 29 saves as the Golden Knights (7-1-0) continued the best start of any expansion franchise in NHL history.

Vegas can tie the record of five consecutive games won by an expansion team when it hosts the Colorado Avalanche on Friday to conclude its seven-game homestand. The Edmonton Oilers set the record in the 1979-80 season.

Jonathan Marchessault, a forward playing his first game after returning from injured reserve, put the Golden Knights ahead 4-1 on a power-play goal with 9:40 remaining.

Penguins 2, Oilers 1 (OT)

Phil Kessel scored off of a two-on-one with Evgeni Malkin 42 seconds into overtime to give Pittsburgh a victory over Edmonton.

It was Kessel's 299th career goal. Ian Cole scored on the Penguins' 32nd shot, at 3:24 of the third.

Connor McDavid tied it 1-1 at 17:07 of the third when he lofted a shot from the left dot over the glove of goaltender Matt Murray. Talbot made 42 saves for the Oilers. Murray stopped 29 shots.

Canadiens 5, Panthers 1

After scoring three goals in less than two minutes en route to a victory over Florida, Montreal got a much-needed win.

Shea Weber scored twice, and Brendan Gallagher added a goal and an assist for the Canadiens. Alex Galchenyuk and Max Pacioretty had the Canadiens' other goals, and Jonathan Drouin contributed two assists. Carey Price stopped 26 shots for the win.

Keith Yandle opened the scoring for the Panthers and goalie James Reimer made 32 saves.

Islanders 5, Coyotes 3

John Tavares collected his seventh career hat trick, capping it with the game-winner with 7:19 left in a New York victory over winless Arizona.

Brock Nelson scored in the third period and Scott Mayfield added an insurance goal with 2:57 remaining. Goalie Jaroslav Halak recorded 32 saves.

Anthony Duclair, Mario Kempe and Nick Cousins scored for the Coyotes (0-8-1), who are off to the worst start in the NHL since the New York Rangers went 0-14-1 to open the 1943-44 season.

Ducks 6, Flyers 2

Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and an assist in his return to the lineup, leading Anaheim over Philadelphia.

Ondrej Kase also netted two goals, and Nick Ritchie, Rickard Rakell and Brandon Montour each scored once for the Ducks.

Sean Couturier netted his fifth and sixth goals of the season for the Flyers.

Lightning 5, Hurricanes 1

Tyler Johnson had a goal and assist as Tampa Bay remained the top team in the NHL through 10 games after defeating Carolina.

Mikhail Sergachev also scored for the Lightning (8-1-1), who got empty-net goals from Vladislav Namestnikov, Ryan Callahan and Nikita Kucherov.

Jaccob Slavin scored for the Hurricanes.

Kings 3, Senators 2 (SO)

Adrian Kempe sent the game into overtime with a goal late in regulation and won it in the shootout as Los Angeles defeated Ottawa.

Alec Martinez also scored for the Kings and the Senators got goals from Nate Thompson and Dion Phaneuf.

Mike Condon made 41 saves in his second start of the season for the Senators, while Darcy Kuemper made 29 stops in the Los Angeles net.

Sabres 1, Red Wings 0

Robin Lehner made 32 saves and Benoit Pouliot scored the lone goal to lead Buffalo over Detroit.

It was Lehner's first shutout of the season and sixth of his career as he led Buffalo to its first home win of the season.

Jimmy Howard stopped 31 of 32 shots for the Red Wings.

Flames 3, Predators 2 (SO)

Matthew Tkachuk's wrist shot goal in the third round of a shootout gave Calgary a win over Nashville.

The Flames rallied from a 2-0 deficit behind third-period goals from Tkachuk and Micheal Ferland to end a two-game skid and improve to 4-1-0 on the road. Calgary goalie Mike Smith stopped 28 shots.

Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi scored power-play goals during a 74-second span in the first period, giving the Predators the lead. Goalie Pekka Rinne made 30 saves.

Canucks 1, Wild 0

Jake Virtanen scored his second goal in as many games in the third period as Vancouver closed a long road trip on a high note, beating Minnesota.

Virtanen's initial shot was blocked by Minnesota defenseman Jared Spurgeon, but the Vancouver top-line right winger gathered his own rebound and snapped a wrist shot just inside the far post to end a defensive battle in just the second home game of the season for Minnesota.

The Canucks got 29 saves from goalie Anders Nilsson, who has two shutouts in three starts this season. The Wild got 24 saves from goalie Devan Dubnyk, but were blanked for the first time this season.

Avalanche 5, Stars 3

Matt Nieto had three goals for his first career hat trick, Gabriel Landeskog had a goal and an assist, and Colorado beat Dallas to end a three-game skid.

Mark Barberio also scored, Blake Comeau had three assists and Semyon Varlamov had 34 saves -- 13 in the third period when the Avalanche withstood a Dallas surge.

Jamie Benn had a goal and two assists, John Klingberg had a goal and an assist, and Brett Ritchie scored for The Stars. Kari Lehtonen stopped 14 shots in relief of Ben Bishop, who also stopped 14.
