Doors will open for the annual hunger benefit at
7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. The events traditional caramel pecan
and cinnamon rolls will be on the breakfast menu. At the same time,
outdoors in the parking lot, a new breakfast item, Breakfast
Burritos, will be served. Hundreds of homemade items will be offered
for sale in the Family Room of the Fellowship Center, sold from a
number of specialized booths. The “Man Cave” will be debuted this
year, as an area offering things of special interest to men and
boys. It will join a number of traditional booths which will offer
Christmas items, things for gardeners, repurposed items, a wide
variety of quilted pieces, and things for babies and children. Also
offered will be a wide variety of baked items, candies and snacks,
jams and jellies, and soup mixes. Gifts From Around the World will
feature items from missions from around the world. In the Fireside
Room a variety of jewelry and handmade scarves will be available. A
coat check room is also planned to care for coats and purchases of
Harvest shoppers.
Many of the items sold at the Harvest are handmade and are one of a
kind, making them perfect selections for Christmas shopping lists.
Artisans from across the country have created pieces just for the
Harvest. Several Silent Auctions will open at 7 a.m. affording
guests an opportunity to bid on a number of selected, unusual and
high quality gift items. Highlight of the day will be the 2 p.m.
Auction which will feature handmade furniture, heirloom quality
quilts, repurposed items, counted cross stitch and other hand
stitched items, paintings, photography, wood carvings, and a number
of other quality, handmade creations.
A wheat weaving “make and take” booth will be a new feature to be
introduced this year. Activities will also be available for children
and youth. Lunch of homemade vegetable soup
(cooked outside in large black kettles), bbq sandwiches and homemade
pie will be offered in the church dining room, while outside Al’s
brisket and pulled pork sandwiches, walking tacos, deep fried
potatoes, and hot dogs will be available. Throughout the morning a
variety of treats will be available outside, including scones and
snacks. Al’s flavored coffees, hot chocolate, and hot spiced cider
will be available in the Lincolnberry Café.

Donated South Dakota red potatoes will be available for purchase
in the church parking lot. Available for personal purchase or for donation to a
number of area food pantries, they will be sold @$15 for 50 lbs bags and $10 for
20 lb. bags.
Harvest weekend will peak with the 10 a.m. Sunday morning Celebration Service to
be held in the Earl C Hargrove Chapel on the Campus of Lincoln Christian
University. At that service a check, representing the proceeds of the 34th
Annual Harvest of Talents for World Hunger, will be presented to International
Disaster Emergency Service (I.D.E.S.) I.D.E.S. is the Christian organization,
based in Noblesville, IN, that will be responsible for distributing Harvest
funds to hunger ministries worldwide. The Public is invited and encouraged to
attend this special service of celebration.
The Harvest of Talents for World Hunger is a unique ministry of Lincoln
Christian Church, which this year was joined by several other such events in
Indiana and Tennessee. All of the funds raised at the Harvest are designated for
hunger programs and orphanages and to meet hunger needs, both physical and
spiritual. In its first 33 years, Lincoln’s Harvest of Talents has raised
$2,139,046.54 to provide food for the hungry in 27 counties, including the USA.
