[September 06, 2017]  Sometimes a young inexperienced team will surprise you and play like a mature team well beyond its years.

Other times it will frustrate you to no end as physical mistakes are compounded by mental ones. The Illini did a little bit of both versus the Ball State Cardinals and were more than fortunate to come away with a 24-21 victory.

To say having Mike Dudek back in an Illini uniform was a great sight might be the understatement of the year. Dudek scored the game’s first touchdown when he layed out and basically took the ball from the defenders, made some other nice plays along the way, and then had a dazzling 57-yard punt return in the fourth quarter that almost ensured the Illini’s chances to come back and win the game.

[to top of second column]

The good thing about it all is that the Illini will not be short on things to work on for the next clash against Western Kentucky. Their team has been averaging between 45-55 points per game the last couple of years and they will even test the Illini more than Ball State did.

Game time this Saturday night is set for 7pm!
