[September 07, 2017]    On Saturday, the Lincoln College Men’s Soccer team traveled to Belleville, Illinois for a matchup with Region 24 foe Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC). LC defeated SWIC by the score of 3-2.

SWIC opened up the scoring early in the first half t take a 1-0 lead, but Lincoln answered just ten minutes later when Sophomore Adrian Roman (Waukegan) slotted fellow sophomore Tajay Small (Kingston, Jamaica) for a breakaway. Small beat the SWIC keeper to tie the score.

Later in the half, SWIC earned a penalty kick on a handball infraction charged to Lincoln in front of their own goal. Since it was ruled that the handball prevented a goal from scoring, a red card was also issued to LC which meant the team would have to play a man down for the final 74 minutes of the match. SWIC scored on their penalty kick attempt to take a 2-1 lead.

Despite the disadvantage of playing with only ten players, the Lynx rallied to score two goals in the second half to win the game 3-2. Both goals were scored by Roman. The first came after an assist by freshman Igancao Ximenez (Laurenceville, GA) and the game-winner was an unassisted goal.

The win moves Lincoln to 1-0 in Region play and 1-1 overall.
