Sept 8 (The Sports Xchange) - Kansas City Chiefs star
strong safety Eric Berry will miss the remainder of the season after
rupturing his left Achilles' tendon in Thursday's season-opening
victory over the New England Patriots.
Berry suffered the injury while covering New England tight end Rob
Gronkowski in the fourth quarter. He began hobbling as the play
concluded, was treated on the field and eventually carted off to the
locker room.
An MRI exam conducted Friday confirmed the injury.

U.S. District Court judge Amos Mazzant III granted a request by the
NFL Players Association for a temporary restraining order to prevent
the implementation of the six-game suspension for Dallas Cowboys
running back Ezekiel Elliott.
Elliott's suspension for violating the league's personal conduct
policy was set to begin on Monday, one day after he was eligible to
compete in the Cowboys' season-opening game against the NFC East
rival New York Giants.
With the injunction, Elliott likely will be able to continue playing
as the legal process plays out.
"(Elliott didn't) receive a fundamentally fair hearing,
necessitating the court grant the request for preliminary
injunction," Mazzant said.

New Orleans Saints long snapper Jon Dorenbos will require open-heart
surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm that was discovered in a
physical after his trade from the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Saints discovered the condition Thursday during a follow-up
physical.
The trade from the Eagles and subsequent physical was a life-saver
by the Saints' physician, Dr. John Amoss.

Evacuation orders and hurricane warnings echoed with the Miami
Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars, who will seek shelter away from
Florida before Hurricane Irma makes landfall this weekend.
The Dolphins-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game scheduled for Sunday at 1
p.m. ET was postponed until November.
The Dolphins decided to fly players and their families to Los
Angeles and remain in California all week ahead of their Sept. 17
game against the Chargers.
The Buccaneers have not announced their plans.

to Kansas City.
Hightower could play in week two against the New Orleans Saints on
Sept. 17, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Friday.

The New York Giants officially listed wide receiver
Odell Beckham Jr. as questionable with an ankle injury that could
keep him on the sidelines for Sunday night's season opener against
the Dallas Cowboys.
Beckham, who did not participate in any of the team's practices this
week, injured his ankle in the second preseason game on Aug. 21
against the Cleveland Browns.

Quarterback Cam Newton is listed as questionable for the
regular-season opener Sunday but coach Ron Rivera said he expects
Newton to start for the Carolina Panthers against the San Francisco
49ers.
Newton, who had surgery on March 30 to repair a partially torn
rotator cuff in his right shoulder, was limited in training camp. He
played only one series during Carolina's four preseason games.
"I think he's ready,'' Rivera said. "You wish he'd had a few more
snaps and played a little bit earlier in the preseason so we'd have
more to go on. But what we saw, we liked."

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Bud Dupree, who has a
shoulder injury, did not practice Friday and is listed as
questionable for Sunday's season opener in Cleveland against the
Browns.

Kevin Hogan was named the Cleveland Browns' backup quarterback for
Sunday's season opener against the Steelers.
The Browns named rookie DeShone Kizer as the starting quarterback
last week and released high-priced Brock Osweiler, leaving Hogan and
Cody Kessler battling as the backups.

The NFL suspended former New York Giants kicker Josh Brown another
six games for violating the personal conduct policy due to domestic
violence accusations.
Brown served a one-game suspension at the start of the 2016 season
after domestic violence allegations were made by his ex-wife. He
accepted the additional ban following further investigation by the
NFL. (Editing by Gene Cherry) [© 2017 Thomson Reuters. All
