Fiddler, Vernon
F Vernon Fiddler announced his retirement from the NHL following
a 14-season career with four different teams. The 37-year-old
Fiddler's announcement was made in The Players' Tribune on
Wednesday, approximately three months after his Predators fell
to the Penguins in the Stanley Cup Finals. Fiddler was acquired
by Nashville from the Devils in February last season for a
fourth-round pick in the 2017 draft. He scored just one goal in
20 games with Predators. Fiddler, who made his NHL debut with
Nashville in 2002, collected 104 goals 157 assists and 558
penalty minutes in 877 career contests with the then-Phoenix
Coyotes, Stars, Devils and Predators.

NHL Note - Pittsburgh Penguins D'Orio, Alex
G Alex D'Orio was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract
with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday. D'Orio posted a
19-2-2 mark with a 2.40 goals-against average and .903 save
percentage in 28 games last season for the Saint John Sea Dogs
of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The 18-year-old guided
the Penguins to the best record (2-0-1) during the 2017
Prospects Challenge, stopping 74 of 82 shots in three
appearances. D'Orio also participated in the Penguins' prospect
development camp in July.
