At Pontiac, Lincoln’s players edged some out
and won two tiebreakers to win all of the singles.
Julianne Funk had a 6-1, 6-0 score, which sounds like an easy
win, yet was hard- fought.
Grace Skelton won 6-1, 7-6(0); Alice Roate, 6-3, 6-4; Madi
Tanner, 6-3, 75; Brooke
Montcalm, 6-1, 4-6, 10-8; Madi Koehler, 6-0, 6-0, and Madisen
Egnew, 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles, the team of Funk/Skelton won 8-4, and Roate/Koehler
won 8-5, while Tanner/Montcalm lost 8-5, and Maggie Hanger/Egnew
lost 8-2.
The Railers were beaten in all matches at Pekin.
“Some players did well in competing, earning some games, but
couldn’t take the sets. A couple of our players had some of the
best hitting I’ve seen. We needed more match strategy in a few
cases. Closing out matches is always tough for newer players,
but that is improving as we go,” commented Coach Jan Dickerson.
The doubles team of Grace Skelton/Alice Roate did very well in
their match, played some excellent tennis, yet came out short in
the end, with Pekin winning 6-3, 2-6, 10-6.
