The ALMH Market Ends Its Regular

LINCOLN
- The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Market will hold its final
market of the regular season on Saturday, September 30 from 8am to
noon at the Logan County Fairgrounds in Lincoln. And while summer is
coming to an end there is still a variety of Illinois-grown produce
available.

“This time of year shoppers find the best of both
summer and the fall. Our vendors have tomatoes, sweet peppers, green
beans and tender sweet greens like arugula, spinach, swiss chard and
kale. But they also have root vegetables like sweet potatoes,
rutabagas, turnips and radishes,” said Nicole Cox, ALMH market
manager.
In addition to the amazing vendors, The Market’s regular activities
including the Power of Produce Club for kids and Zumba with Janell
Woolard at 9am. Emily Johnson who recently opened up for Pentatonix
at the Illinois State Fair will be providing live music.
To help celebrate an amazing second season, The Zoo Lady will also
be on-site with free face painting and the Central Illinois
Community Blood Center will host a blood drive. It’s also community
day at the The ALMH Market featuring United Way of Logan County, the
Humane Society of Logan County and the University of Illinois
Extension Illinois Master Gardeners. United Way is hosting a
children’s book exchange, encouraging children ages 0 – 10 to bring
a book to donate for another child and choose a new or gently used
book to take home. At 11 a.m. Dr. Hal
Mohammed, ALMH Hospitalist Program Director, will lead community
members on a casual 5-mile bike ride through Lincoln. All fitness
levels and ages are encouraged to bring a bike and join the ride.

Two additional markets will be held in 2017. On Saturday, October
28 The ALMH Market will return to the Logan County Fairgrounds for a “Fall
Festival Night at The Market” from 5pm-8pm. Activities at the evening market
will include a costume contest, spaghetti sauce competition, live music and
more. And on Tuesday, November 22 The ALMH Market will host its second “Holiday
Market” to help bring fresh produce to the Thanksgiving table. The Holiday
Market will be held at the Lincoln Park District from 5pm-8pm.
