The 6-foot-7 Washington averaged 10.8 points
and 5.7 rebounds per game and started 20 of 37 contests this
season. He averaged 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds over the final
dozen games, shooting 57.6 percent from the field.
"His ability to play winning basketball isn't even close to
where it was at the beginning of the season," Wildcats coach
John Calipari said in a news release. "I've seen a tremendous
growth in all those areas. Like all these kids, I would like to
continue to coach PJ, but I'm going to support him as he goes
through this process."
The NBA draft is slated for June 21. Players who don't sign with
an agent have until June 11 to withdraw and retain their college
eligibility.
--Wisconsin center Ethan Happ is declaring for the NBA draft,
the school announced.
Happ, who said he will not hire an agent, averaged 17.9 points
and 8.0 rebounds for Wisconsin this season.
Happ indicated in early March that he planned to submit his name
for the draft. He told reporters then he would depart only if he
was a first-round pick.
--Nevada star Caleb Martin, his twin brother Cody, and fellow
forward Jordan Caroline all announced that they are entering the
NBA draft. Each indicated that they will not hire an agent.
Caleb Martin was named Mountain West Player of the Year after
averaging 18.9 points and 5.4 rebounds during a season in which
the Wolf Pack (29-8) matched the school record for victories and
reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 before losing to
Loyola-Chicago.
He is projected as a late first-round pick, while Cody Martin is
a possible second-round pick. Caroline is a long shot to be
drafted.
