Effective Sunday, April
1st, Atlanta’s Palms Grill Café welcomed a new leaseholder, who
isn’t really new to the restaurant at all. Amanda Smith has served
as the head chef at the Grill for the past two years, and will now
lease the operation from the Atlanta Public Library. With over 16
years experience in food service, including six-years as a manager,
Smith welcomes the opportunity to maintain the successful operation
she has helped build at the the Grill.
The Palms Grill Café was designed to recreate the experience of
eating in a small town café located on historic Rt. 66 back in the
1930s-40s – a vision Smith wants to preserve and enhance. “I am
passionate about the food I cook and will continue to prepare our
menu items from scratch, because that’s part of the experience we
know our customers want”, noted Smith. She is especially proud of
the Grill’s signature ruben sandwiches and other corned beef dishes,
which use the real deal product, slow-roasted overnight to make it
as tender and flavorful as possible. Smith will also continue as the
Grill’s primary baker, making a variety of homemade fruit and cream
pies availble by the slice at the restaurant and by the whole pie,
with an advance order.
The Palms Grill Café will continue to present its annual Dinner
Program Series, scheduled each year from November through March.
Programs slated for next year will be coordinated with the Museum on
Mainstreet Program the Atlanta Library will host from the
Smithsonian Institution, which focuses on changes in rural America.
In addition, Smith plans to continue the popular evenings with Danny
Tacket and His Chicken’ & Pickin’ Orchestra, featuring the Grill’s
crispy fried chicken, real mashed potatoes & gravy, dinner salad,
green beans, and homemade dessert.

downtown Atlanta.
One new element Smith will bring involves catering services provided by the
Palms Grill Café. Contact the Grill to see how it can be of service for your
event or gathering.
While things may transition from the Atlanta Library managing the Grill to Smith
leasing it, little else will change. Patrons and new visitors can expect the
same friendly waitstaff, the same homecooked Blue Plate Specials and other menu
items, all experienced in a setting designed to attract tourists and visitors,
while providing a friendly dining spot for locals.
Starting April 1st, the Palms Grill Café hours of operation have also changed to
Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am-3:00pm, and Friday and Saturday
from 10:00am-8:00pm, closed on Tuesday.
