Logan County Arts presents "From the World of Books"
Exhibit opens with artist reception April 12th

[April 08, 2018]   LINCOLN - For their April art exhibit, Logan County Arts members will be sharing their inspirations “From the World of Books. “ The show will open with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 12 at the Lincoln Art Institute, 112 S. McLean St, Lincoln.

As usual, the LCA artists have chosen a theme that gives their imaginations free rein, since we can be inspired by any author, from Shakespeare to Martha Stewart. The results reflect the very broad range of books found in the artists’ homes and the public library. The media the artists use to express their ideas are also imaginative and widely varied. Visitors will be able to see oil and acrylic paintings, pastels, photography, multimedia works, and turned wood creations.

Suzanne Faulkner, with a lush landscape inspired by Hemingway’s Islands in the Stream, and Sharon Fak, with a tulip rendition based on the novel Tulip Fever, are banishing the last chill of winter. Tony Shuff celebrates the state bicentennial with a salute to Abraham Lincoln and his love of books. Moses Pinkerton pits the forces of good and evil with a canvas recalling Dante’s travels into The Inferno, while Jason Hoffman brings out the beauty of wood with turned pieces inspired by the writing of Malcolm Tibbetts, a woodworking artist. Pam Moriearty’s still life recalls a quiet corner where a reader can retreat for study and contemplation. Other LCA members will also add their interpretations to the literary display.
 

After the opening, the show will be available for viewing until May 5 by chance or appointment. For a private showing, people may call gallerist Pinkerton at 217-651-8355. Also available at the “World of Books” opening will be information on the May 10, 2018 “Young Artists” exhibit, which will feature new works by student artists from this area.
