James Jackson Houchin 1933-2018
James Jackson “Jim” Houchin, age 84, of Lincoln,
passed away April 10,2018 at Memorial Hospital,
Springfield Il.
Jim was born on June 14, (Flag Day) 1933 in Allen’s
Grove Township the son of Charles Jackson and
Anniece Esther (Roland) Houchin. He married Grace
Evelyn Woodhull daughter of Harold Dewitt and Bertha
Grace (Wilshire) Woodhull at their home on July 4,
1954 in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY.
Jim was preceded in death by the love of his life,
Grace, his wife of 62 years, both of his parents and
his younger brother John Charles Houchin.
Jim is survived by his children, son James H.
Houchin, his wife Anne M. of O’ Fallon, MO.,
Daughter Cathy Ann Skaggs of Lincoln, IL .His sister
Nancy Welch and Husband Tom of St. Joseph, IL,
grandchildren Elizabeth Rebecca Houchin of O’Fallon,
MO, Jeffery Skaggs and his wife Shelly of Lincoln,
IL and great grandson Joshua Skaggs of Lincoln, IL.
Also surviving are his nephew Jason (Tammy) Welch of
Bloomington, IL and niece Jennifer (Brian) Wetzel of
St. Joseph, IL.

Jim retired from Caterpillar as a shipping clerk after 48 years.
He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local #for 47 years. He served
his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy. He was deacon at
First Baptist Church of Lincoln IL. and was active in Boy Scouts most of his
adult life, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 113 and serving as District
Commissioner of the Corn Belt Boy Scout Council being awarded numerous Boy Scout
Key Awards for his Leadership. Jim enjoyed watching his beloved Lincoln High
School Railspliters and the Bloomington IL. Central Catholic High School Saints
which is coached by his nephew Jason Welch.
Visitation for Jim will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April
16, 2018 at Holland, Barry and Bennett Funeral Home 620 Pulaski St. Lincoln IL
with services following visitation officiated by Rev. Michael Mallick, Jefferson
Street Christian Church. Burial will follow the services at Allens Grove
Cemetery, Allens Grove Township. Memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to
Disabled American Veterans or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
