Lincoln Daily News welcomes letters of appreciation, information and opinion on matters pertaining to the community.

Controversial issues:
As a community we need to be able to talk openly about matters that affect the quality of our lives. The most effective and least offensive manner to get your point across is to stick to the issue and refrain from commenting on another person's opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

To the editor:

Thank you for your past participation in the Lincoln Polar Plunge that benefits Special Olympics Illinois. I’m writing to inform you that Lincoln will not be hosting a Polar Plunge for 2018. Instead, we will be focusing efforts on a Re-Structure that will be happening throughout the Special Olympics Illinois organization. We would like to take this time to thank all the sponsors, volunteers, media and plungers for their past support. The Lincoln Polar Plunge has provided many athletes with the resources and the opportunity to train and compete in the sports they are so passionate about.

As we look to the 2018 Polar Plunge Season, we hope you will join us at one of the surrounding area Polar Plunge sites; Springfield, Decatur or Bloomington – which is located less than 30 miles from the Lincoln Polar Plunge site. (See attached map with locations.) All funds raised from each Polar Plunge directly support the 22,500 Special Olympics Illinois athletes competing statewide.

[to top of second column in this letter]

I am talking with the coaches of the Lincoln Special Olympic athletes to coordinate a local fundraiser and will be sending out information soon regarding this event.

If you are interested in continuing to supporting the athletes of Logan County, please contact our Region I Home office in Decatur located at:

1950 N. Water St.
Decatur, IL 62526

Thank you again for your continued support! We hope to see you this Plunge Season or at one of the local Logan County Special Olympic fundraisers.
