Harvest of Talents brings hunger relief around the world

To the editor:

As we look back on the 34th Harvest of Talents for World Hunger, we are absolutely filled with thanksgiving and are deeply humbled by the continued support for hunger relief from our community, so ~ with grateful hearts on behalf of hungry children around the world, we give you a HUGE HARVEST THANK YOU!!!!!

Thank you for sharing a measure of your time, talents, prayers, encouragement, and resources for the various Harvest projects and events throughout this year and especially on Harvest Day (always the fourth Saturday of October) when Lincoln’s Mayor opened the doors and hundreds of friends, neighbors, and family, from Alaska to Florida and India, shared in fellowship while many and varied talents were turned into 'rice and beans’.

This year’s Harvest offering was $100,689.28 (and, yes, every penny counts!), and was given to International Disaster Emergency Service, 100% for hunger relief.

Since Harvest of Talents began 34 years ago, there are now seven sister Harvests in four states, and the Lincoln area alone has raised $2,239,735.82.

This year, our gratitude grew vastly in measure, watching so many of our young people catch the vision and make it their own. One sweet example was a three-page ‘book’ authored by a 5-year-old: “The sun is high, it’s a beautiful day! How can I feed the hungry kids? Sell my book for money for food!” It’s just that simple, for we are blessed to be a Blessing.

As Pat Snyder, Harvest Founder, says, "As long as there are hungry people, the Harvest has a mission!”

Thank you Lincoln, Logan County, and central Illinois ~ Together, we can make hope happen and be found faithful to Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry, and you fed me.”

The 35th Harvest has now begun!
