Pulaski Hilltoppers swept in doubleheader by Lanphier

The Mount Pulaski Baseball Team hosted Lanphier on Saturday and it
was the Hilltoppers dropping both contests to the Lions. The Lions
edged Mount Pulaski 3-2 in extra innings in game one and then
proceeded to crush the Hilltoppers 17-2 in game two.
Mount Pulaski took the lead in game one in the third inning on a
sacrifice fly by Logan DeRight that scored Garrett Fitzpatrick.
In the top of the fourth inning Lanphier took a 2-1 lead over Mount
Pulaski with Todd Kelly on the mound for the Hilltoppers.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Mount Pulaski tied the game at 2-2
after Ben Fricke hit a one-out single, stole second base and came
around to score on an error by Lanphier.
Lanphier scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning off
Logan DeRight. DeRight struck out three batters in the inning but
gave up a run on three singles.
Lanphier got Mount Pulaski batters to ground out, fly out and
strikeout for the final three outs of the ballgame. The final in
game one was 3-2.
Logan DeRight was the losing pitcher in relief. Todd Kelly pitched
seven innings, giving up just three hits and two runs, both
unearned. His seven strikeouts led all pitchers and he allowed just
three walks.

Game two
In game two Lanphier's bats were on fire and the northenders scored
in each of the fist six innings. The Lions tagged Mount Pulaski
starter Drew Martin for six runs, only two were earned, in the first
two innings. Martin gave up just two hits and struck out three
batters. Brandon Kretzinger pitched the final four innings and he
gave up eleven runs on eleven hits.
Mount Pulaski scored just two runs in the losing effort. The first
run came in the bottom of the second inning when Ben Fricke led off
with a double. Fricke moved to third on a groundout by Tanner
Farris. Fricke scored when Grant Davis singled to centerfield.
The Hilltoppers scored their second run of the game in the bottom of
the third inning on back-to-back doubles by Drew Martin and Todd
Kelly.
Lanphier had an 8-2 lead heading into the fourth inning and the
slugfest just continued for the Lions. Their big inning of the day
was in the sixth inning when they scored seven runs to put the game
away. The final score in game two was 17-2.
Drew Martin took the loss for Mount Pulaski.
