Obituary
Gary Lee Maxey, age 66, passed away
Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center
in
Winston-Salem, NC. Gary was born December 1, 1951 in
Lincoln, IL to Clarence and Mary (Phelan) Maxey. He
married Linda Lessen on September 3, 1988. She
survives.
Gary was a member of Elkin First Methodist Church.
He retired from First Union/Wachovia/Wells Fargo as
a Financial Advisor. Gary later owned and operated
Maxey Investments. He was very active in the
community and was a member of Yadkin Valley Rotary,
Foothills Arts Council, a board member of
Winston-Salem Foundation and served on the initial
renovation board of the Reeves Theatre in downtown
Elkin. Gary was best known as “Bacchus” at the
Yadkin Valley Wine Festival for many years.
Prior to moving to North Carolina, Gary was involved
in Lincoln Community Theatre and other community
activities in Lincoln. Gary graduated from Lincoln
High School, Lincoln College and received his
Masters from University of Illinois-Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister,
Sheron Maxey Ramlow and brother, Rob Maxey.
Survivors include: his wife, daughter, Alexa Maxey
and fiancé Riley Laegeler of Long Grove, IL; sister,
Carol Schleder of Rochester, IL; sister-n-law, Cyndi
Maxey of Chicago, IL; nephews and niece; Rod (Missy)
Schleder of Rochester, IL; Brett (Lauren) Schleder
of Kentucky; Ryan Maxey of Colorado; Phelan Maxey of
New York and so many who called him friend.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday,
May 19, 2018 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm (5 to 6 pm - receiving
line and 6 to 7 pm - celebration in main theatre) at the
Lincoln College Johnston Center located at 300 Keokuk
Street, Lincoln, IL. Interment will be in the Holy Catholic
Family Cemetery in Lincoln , IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Lincoln
Community Theatre, Lincoln High School Theatre Department or
to the charity of the donors choice. |
