Saturday:  Railers softball swept in Apollo Conference doubleheader by Mount Zion

The Lincoln Railers softball team dropped an Apollo Conference doubleheader on Saturday to the Mount Zion Braves. Lincoln lost the first contest 11-3 and the second one 10-2.

Game One 11-3

Lincoln did score first in the first game on a first inning RBI double by Kerstin Osborne and took a 1-0 lead.

Mount Zion got on the board in the third inning with three runs and that was just the beginning of their outstanding offensive performance. A big blow for Lincoln was a five-run sixth inning by Mount Zion that really put the game out of reach. Mount Zion pounded out 14 hits in the 11-3 win. The Braves did not commit a single error in the field.

Lincoln did get five hits in the game. Sydney Worth was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Jacey Cooper, Kerstin Osborne and Sydney Sutherland had the other hits for the Railers.

Osborne tossed the complete seven innings and struck out six batters.

Game Two 10-2

Mount Zion had two dominant innings to put the Railers away in game two. The Braves scored four runs in the third inning and six runs in the fifth inning. Mount Zion's bats continued to impress and the ladies had 12 hits against Lincoln.

Impressive for Lincoln was the two home runs at Schweitzer Field. Sydney Worth hit one in the third inning and Jacey Cooper smacked one in the seventh inning. As a team, Lincoln's bats woke up and the ladies did have seven hits on the afternoon. Bayleigh Gillum and Sydney Worth each had two hits for Lincoln. Osborne and Sutherland had the other hits for Lincoln.

Toeing the rubber in this game was Kerstin Osborne. She gave up nine earned runs and struck out three batters in seven innings of work.
