Adam Frazier hit a two-out
walkoff homer in the 11th inning Sunday to give the Pittsburgh
Pirates a 2-1 win and a split of their four-game series against the
visiting Chicago Cubs at PNC Park.
Frazier's third career walkoff hit and fifth homer of this season
came against Cubs reliever Brandon Kintzler (1-3) to break a 1-1
tie.
In each game of the series, the Cubs scored one run on solo homers
by Ian Happ, Ben Zobrist and Kyle Schwarber, who got his second of
the series Sunday. They won the first two games 1-0 before dropping
the second two by scores of 3-1 and 2-1.
Pittsburgh starter Jameson Taillon struck out eight in six innings.
He gave up one run and five hits, with three walks.
Richard Rodriguez (3-2) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the
win.
Chicago starter Jose Quintana, who had given up 10 earned runs over
his previous two starts, allowed one run and four hits in five-plus
innings. He struck out four, walked two.
Schwarber led off the second with his 22nd homer, a shot to right,
for a 1-0 Cubs lead.
Pittsburgh tied it in the sixth. Corey Dickerson led off with an
infield single and Starling Marte walked. Gregory Polanco drove in
Dickerson with a double high off the wall in right to make it 1-1.
That chased Quintana for Carl Edwards Jr, who escaped further
damage.

Pittsburgh missed a chance to go ahead in the seventh. Colin Moran
reached with one out on a pinch-hit single and left for pinch-runner
Kevin Newman. After Dickerson struck out, the rookie was thrown out
at home on Marte's double to left.
In the eighth, Chicago's Javy Baez lined a double to right with two
outs, and Rizzo drew an intentional walk before reliever Keone Kela
struck out pinch-hitter Victor Caratini.
Pittsburgh loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Dickerson
grounded into a double play with the Cubs employing a five-man
infield.
Chicago loaded the bases with two outs in the 11th before Rodriguez
struck out pinch-hitter Albert Almora Jr.
