The Seventh and Eighth Grade WLB Lady Wolverine Basketball Teams had a busy week.

The team came out strong and ready to play as they pulled out to a first half lead of 28-6. The Lady Wolverines were not done, after halftime they found a spark and rattled off another 22 points.

The Lady Wolverines defeated Roanoke Benson by a score of 51-14 and punched their ticket to the State Finals for the third consecutive year.

Kloe Froebe led all scorers with 25 points as Jenna Bowman put in 14, Mia Clark 5, Becca Heitzig 4, Tori Geriets 2, Piper Whiteman 1. Some other impressive stats, Heitzig dished out 6 assist, Froebe grabbed 7 boards and had 6 steals.

The team didn’t have much of a break as they were back in the gym on Thursday night for the beginning of Eighth Grade Regionals. The Lady Wolverines only have one eighth grader this year on the eighth grade team.

The Lady Wolverines faced off against cross town rivals Chester East-Lincoln. The Lady Wolverines defeated the Panthers by a score of 51-22.

The week was just beginning for these amazing girls.
Friday the girls were back at the WLB gym to face a tough Morton Blessed Sacrament team for the Eighth Grade Regional Championship.

Even though most of the girls were on their third game in three days they showed no fatigue. The Lady Wolverines jumped out to a commanding 39-7 halftime lead.

These girls were not ready to stop!

The Lady Wolverines defeated Morton by a final score of 50-17 and with this victory the WLB Eighth Grade Team claimed the Regional Championship.

Froebe led all scorers with 19 and Jenna Bowman added 16, Elly Martinez 5.

Heitzig dished out 5 assist, as Froebe pulled down 9 boards and 9 steals.

This week was far from over for these girls. The girls then had to be up and on the bus by 7:30 a.m. to head to Assumption to play in the Seventh Grade IESA State Finals as the Lady Wolverines had the first game of the day at 10 a.m. against AC Central.

The girls started off pretty sluggish, but still managed to have a 28-9 halftime lead.

The team managed to fight through their fatigue and pulled out a commanding 53-16 victory and guaranteed they would be bringing home some hardware.

Kloe Froebe led all scorers with 20, Jenna Bowman 9, Becca Heitzig 8, Lily Holmes 6, Mia Clark 4, Alison Turner and Marin Luckhart 2 a piece.

With this win the Lady Wolverines would face Annawan in the semi-finals.

The girls were treated to a buffet at Angelos Pizza in Taylorville sponsored by the WLB Booster club, which helped to re-energize these girls as they were prepping for their fifth game in four days.

The pizza and pasta helped as the Lady Wolverines came out like the tornadoes that were developing all around us. At one point in the game the emergency lights started going off but that didn’t stop these girls as they have had a goal all season to get back to the “ship.”

The Lady Wolverines pulled out to a 42-7 halftime lead and never looked back.

The Lady Wolverines defeated Annawan by a score of 62-9.

With this win the Lady Wolverines broke a few IESA team and individual records.
