 Heartland’s Health and Human Services Division will
be offering a Medical Assistant program beginning in the Fall 2019
semester.
Medical Assistants (MA) are healthcare professionals trained to work
in a physician’s office or clinic both administratively and
clinically. Skills that are covered in the program include patient
prep, blood draws and specimen collection, insurance and billing,
assisting physicians with procedures and other professional duties.
The Medical Assistant program joins fields of study at Heartland
that have outpaced the national averages for academic achievement.
In the past year Heartland has had four Health and
Human services programs produce a perfect pass rate for licensure or
certification exams.

Student cohorts in Nursing (both RN & LPN), Physical Therapy
Assistant and Radiography programs all reached a 100 percent pass rate on board
exams in 2017-2018.
“Medical Assistant is a growing profession that is in-demand in doctor’s
offices, clinics and diagnostic laboratories,” said Jennifer O’Connor, Interim
Dean of Health and Human Services. “This is a program that prepares students to
be ready for the workforce after just one year of training. This is a good
complement to the two-year healthcare programs we have been offering.”
Students interested in exploring the Medical Assistant program, as well as the
Associate of Applied Science degrees in Nursing, PTA and Radiography, can learn
more during an informational session January 29, 2019 on the Heartland campus at
1500 W Raab Rd. in Normal, IL.
