Friday, Dec. 21 -- Longest Night/Blue Christmas Service
The Christmas season is often marked by expressions of joy,
excitement, and happiness. However, this time of joy and expectation
can often overshadow the pain and hurt many experience during this
season, when the world's merriment puts their grief and sorrow in
stark relief. Traditionally centered on the Winter Solstice [the
longest night of the year], this service will provide time and
space, through song and readings from Scripture, for God’s people to
reflect on the pain this time of the year can invoke, while also
remembering that God is there and that light will soon return.

KIDS WORSHIP—December 2018
During the month of December, during Kids Worship we will learn that
Christmas means a lot more than the presents that are under the
tree! Kids will discover that the events of Christmas involved a lot
of “telling.” Prophets told, the angels told, the innkeeper
undoubtedly told, and shepherds as well had a lot to tell. Through
this series, we will find that we can continue to tell the story of
Jesus’ birth and that our “telling” still has an impact on the world
today!
If you would like to encourage and review this study with your
child, the weekly topics are listed below (the weekly point is
listed in italics). During this month we will focus on a key verse
from Luke 2:11, “The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the
Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!”
• Prophets Foretell Jesus’ Birth. Isaiah 7:14; 9:6–7;
We put our hope in Jesus.
• An Angel Appears to Mary and Joseph. Matthew 1:18–25; Luke
1:26–38;
We believe Jesus is God’s Son.
• Jesus is Born in Bethlehem. Luke 2:1–7.
We receive God’s greatest gift.
• Shepherds Learn That Jesus is Born. Luke 2:8–20;
We tell others about Jesus.
• Wise Men Visit Jesus. Matthew 2:1–12;
We seek Jesus every day.
