On Thursday the 20th, Lincoln lost to the host school, Roosevelt
University 61-57. LC was up by one at the halftime break, but got
outscored 17-7 in the third quarter as was unable to recover.
Lincoln was led in scoring and rebounding by sophomore Kaleia
Monteiro (Rockford) who poured in 21 points and grabbed 17 rebounds
for another double-double. Nautica Preston (Chicago) and Erynn Young
(Indianapolis) also reached double digits in scoring. Preston had 12
points and Young scored 10.
Despite the outcome, Lincoln Coach Deronte Polite saw several
positives in his team’s effort, “We played very hard tonight, but
could not score in the third quarter. I was pleased with every facet
of the game except our shot making. We will build on this and
continue to push forward.”
Coach Polite’s team did not have long to dwell on the defeat as they
came right back the next day to take on Robert Morris University.
RMU came out strong and took a five-point lead into halftime (39-34)
but this time it was Lincoln’s turn to own the third quarter. LC
outscored the Eagles 20-14 in the third to take the lead and did not
falter down the stretch to seal the victory 71-67.
Erynn Young led all scorers with 21 points and Kaleia Monteiro came
through with another double-double by scoring 15 points and matching
her previous game-high total of 17 rebounds.
“Tonight was a great team win,” said Coach Polite. “We played
sloppily throughout the game, but made great energy plays down the
stretch. It was a good win to close out the year.”
Lincoln (5-10) will be off until January 6th when they will travel
to Missouri for a match-up against Cottey College (NAIA).
