Graveman, 28, is recovering from Tommy John
surgery on his pitching elbow and is expected to be out until
after the All-Star break. The Cubs signed Graveman to a $575,000
contract for 2019 with a $3 million club option for 2020,
according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.
Graveman spent his first five seasons with the Oakland
Athletics, going 23-29 with a 4.38 ERA in 83 games (78 starts).
He went 1-5 with a 7.60 ERA in seven starts last season before
he was shut down because of injuries.
The Toronto Blue Jays drafted the Mississippi State alum in the
eighth round in 2013. He was shipped to Oakland a little more
than one year later as part of a five-player trade that sent
Josh Donaldson to the A's.
The Cubs can afford to be patient with Graveman thanks to a
starting rotation that includes Jon Lester, Cole Hamels, Kyle
Hendricks, Yu Darvish and Jose Quintana.
