Chandler Stephenson scored twice
after going 28 games without a goal, sparking a comeback from an
early two-goal deficit that helped the Washington Capitals to a 5-3
victory over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.
Stephenson scored his third and fourth goals of the season 47
seconds apart early in the second period. That seemed to give
Washington a jolt after it fell behind 2-0 in the first period --
and started a five-goal run.
Andre Burakovsky and T.J. Oshie then added power-play goals for the
Capitals. Devante Smith-Pelly added a goal to give Washington a 5-2
edge.
Capitals goalie Braden Holtby finished with 27 saves against the
Flyers, who had won eight of their previous 10 games. Nolan Patrick,
Travis Konecny and Jakub Voracek scored for Philadelphia.
Red Wings 2, Sharks 1 (SO)
Tomas Tatar scored in the seventh round of a shootout, and Detroit
outlasted visiting San Jose.
The Red Wings won the shootout 4-3 with Gustav Nyquist, Andreas
Athanasiou and Justin Abdelkader also scoring. Petr Mrazek stopped
Tomas Hertl's backhand try to end the shootout.
Trevor Daley scored in regulation for Detroit, which had lost six of
its last eight. Mrazek, who recorded shutouts in the Wings' previous
two victories, stopped 30 shots. San Jose's Martin Jones made 43
saves, and Kevin Labanc scored for the Sharks.

Maple Leafs 5, Islanders 0
Five different players scored a goal apiece for Toronto, and goalie
Frederik Andersen stopped all 28 shots in a rout of visiting New
York.
Kasperi Kapanen and Auston Matthews scored in the first period,
Mitchell Marner and Travis Dermott scored in the second period and
Justin Holl scored in the third for the Maple Leafs, who have won
three straight. The goals by Dermott and Holl were the first of
their NHL careers.
While the Maple Leafs peppered the Islanders with 50 shots, Andersen
was rarely tested in earning his fourth shutout of the season and
the 14th of his career. New York's biggest threat came in the first
two minutes of the third period, when Andersen turned back a
point-blank backhanded attempt by John Tavares.
