Mount Pulaski Courthouse to celebrate Lincoln's birthday this Saturday

[February 09, 2018]   LINCOLN - On Saturday, Feb. 10th, the Mount Pulaski Courthouse Foundation invites everyone to celebrate Abraham Lincoln's Birthday at the Mount Pulaski Courthouse from noon to 4 p.m.

There will be presentations, refreshments, and many children's activities. Abraham and Mary Lincoln will greet you.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m., the Lincoln's as portrayed by Joe Woodard of Hazel Dell and Pam Brown of Springfield will speak in the second-floor courtroom.

The Lincoln's will reflect on their last day together, offering their interpretation of the couple activities on the afternoon of April 14, 1865, hours before the president was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth.

Children's activities will be available from noon to 4 p.m. Learn to write with a quill pen, play a new game.

Getting Morse Code on telegraph is how Abraham Lincoln kept up with the daily activities of the Civil War, children on Saturday will learn how that special code works.

Youngsters will also have the opportunity to make Valentines, Lincoln cards, and bookmarks. Each one will be given a Lincoln hat and beard.

Prizes will be given for activities, and there will also be drawings for Grand Prizes.

Refreshments will be Abraham Lincoln's favorite dessert, apple pie with rum sauce, Helen Schmidt's cookies, coffee, and punch.
