NHL roundup: Predators win on OT penalty shot

[February 14, 2018] Austin Watson scored twice in the final six minutes of regulation time to cap a furious three-goal, third-period comeback, and then Filip Forsberg scored on an overtime penalty shot as the Nashville Predators beat the visiting St. Louis Blues 4-3 Tuesday.

Forsberg was the hero 1:19 into OT. He was tripped by Jaden Schwartz while on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot, which he converted by ripping a glove-side shot past Blues goalie Carter Hutton for his 17th goal of the season.

Pekka Rinne made 28 saves for the Predators, who have reached extra time in five consecutive games. Calle Jarnkrok also scored for Nashville, while St. Louis got goals from Jay Bouwmeester, Alexander Steen and Jaden Schwartz.

Sabres 5, Lightning 3

Sam Reinhart scored two goals and Ryan O'Reilly added a goal and two assists to lead host Buffalo to a victory over Tampa Bay.

Chad Johnson had 26 saves for the Sabres, who won for third time in four games and spoiled the 400th head-coaching game for Tampa Bay's Jon Cooper. Nicholas Baptiste and Scott Wilson also scored for Buffalo.

Ryan Callahan, Yanni Gourde and Vladislav Namestnikov scored goals and Louis Domingue had 28 saves the Eastern Conference-leading Lightning.

Hurricanes 7, Kings 3

Justin Faulk registered his first career hat trick within the first 22 minutes as Carolina thumped visiting Los Angeles.

Faulk scored three goals in a row as the Hurricanes went up 4-0 by early in the second period. He had gone the previous 14 games without a goal, though he now has seven goals this season.

Jeff Skinner posted two goals and Jaccob Slavin and Sebastian Aho also scored for the Hurricanes, who have won three games in a row. Anze Kopitar, Tyler Toffoli and Torrey Mitchell scored for the Kings.

Golden Knights 5, Blackhawks 2

Brad Hunt, Reilly Smith and David Perron scored on consecutive shots early in the third period to rally Vegas to a victory over visiting Chicago.

Ryan Carpenter and Tomas Nosek also scored for the Western Conference-leading Golden Knights, who snapped a two-game home losing streak and won for the 20th time in 26 games at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas' Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 saves.

Alex DeBrincat had a goal and an assist and Tommy Wingels also scored for Chicago, which saw lost for the seventh straight game (0-6-1). The Blackhawks are riding their longest losing streak since 2012, when they dropped nine in a row.

Jets 4, Capitals 3 (OT)

Tyler Myers scored with 2:25 left in overtime, and Winnipeg ended its first two-game home losing streak of the season with a victory over Washington.

The Jets' Mark Scheifele scored twice, including a game-tying, short-handed goal with 14.4 seconds left.

Nicklas Backstrom, Andre Burakovsky and John Carlson had goals for the Capitals, who have lost four consecutive overtime decisions.

Coyotes 2, Sharks 1

Kevin Connauton and Alex Goligoski scored goals, and both Arizona goaltenders had a hand in a victory at San Jose.

While the Coyotes received all of their offense from defensemen, Arizona goalies Scott Wedgewood and Antti Raanta combined for 40 saves.

Wedgewood, who stopped 28 of 29 shots and officially recorded the win, was pulled from the game by the concussion spotter early in the third period after a collision with Sharks forward Timo Meier. Raanta stopped all 12 saves he faced in an excellent relief appearance while the Sharks pressed for the equalizer.

Wild 3, Rangers 2

Marcus Foligno capped a three-goal first period for Minnesota, which held on for a victory over visiting New York.

Eric Staal and Zach Parise scored unassisted goals in the opening period, helping the Wild win for the fourth time in six games. Devan Dubnyk made the early goals stand up by recording 32 saves.

John Gilmour and Kevin Hayes netted power-play goals for the Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves as New York lost for the fifth time in seven games.

Devils 5, Flyers 4 (SO)

Drew Stafford's shootout goal was the difference, propelling visiting New Jersey past Philadelphia.

Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid made 31 saves on 35 shots through regulation and overtime. Taylor Hall scored two goals while John Moore and Nico Hischier each scored once for the Devils.

Claude Giroux, Scott Laughton, Radko Gudas and Konecny each scored for the Flyers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. Philadelphia's Michal Neuvirth stopped 32 shots.

Red Wings 2, Ducks 1

Dylan Larkin and Frans Nielsen scored goals, and Jimmy Howard made 32 saves to lead the Detroit to a victory over visiting Anaheim.

Anaheim peppered Howard with 33 shots compared to 16 for Detroit. However, the Ducks only could get one across the goal line, and that came with 3:54 remaining when Adam Henrique scored to cut Detroit's lead to 2-1.

Ducks goalie John Gibson made 14 saves.

Penguins 6, Senators 3

Jake Guentzel scored twice, Zach Aston-Reese added his first two career goals, and Pittsburgh defeated visiting Ottawa.

Penguins goalie Matt Murray finished with 30 saves. Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang each added one goal and one assist, and Sidney Crosby had three assists for Pittsburgh, which has won a season-best nine straight games at home.

Derick Brassard, Colin White and Matt Duchene scored for Ottawa.

Bruins 5, Flames 2

Patrice Bergeron netted the winner early in the third period and padded the lead with another goal as Boston topped visiting Calgary.

Riley Nash scored twice, Zdeno Chara added another, and Tuukka Rask made 28 saves as the Bruins were victorious for the fifth time in six tries.

Johnny Gaudreau and Sam Bennett collected goals for the Flames. Calgary goalie David Rittich recorded 35 stops.

Blue Jackets 4, Islanders 1

Columbus posted the final four goals en route to a victory over host New York.

Oliver Bjorkstrand, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Brandon Dubinsky and Cam Atkinson scored for the Blue Jackets, who outshot the Islanders 51-30. Columbus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 29 saves.

John Tavares scored for the Islanders, and New York goalie Jaroslav Halak recorded 47 saves.
