Lincoln College sophomore Erynn Young has reached a major milestone
in her career and set a new scoring standard for the Lady Lynx
Women’s Basketball program. On Friday, February 9th, in a home game
against Bryant & Stratton College, Young scored her 1,000th career
point as a college player. She is the first player in program
history to reach this milestone making her LC’s all-time leader in
points scored.
Young is a 6’0” guard from Indianapolis, Indiana and a graduate of
Ben Davis High School. She says she chose to attend Lincoln College
as a Criminal Justice major after finding out that Lincoln had hired
Matt Vavro to coach the team. “I was recruited by Coach Vavro to
play at Danville, but when he moved over to coach at Lincoln, I
decided to come here instead to play for him.”
The Lady Lynx are glad she decided to make the switch, and so is
Young. “I like that the campus is small and I have been able to work
with the teachers here very well. I am sure I would not have been as
comfortable at a big school as I am here,” she said.
Young has been a standout performer on a team that has been putting
together one of the strongest seasons in program history. LC is off
to a 22-2 start and is in first place in both Midwest Athletic
Conference and Region 24 standings. Her 482 points scored so far
this season have her in the top ten (#9) in scoring among all
players at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)
Division II level. She is averaging 20.1 points per game which is
good for 20th place in the NJCAA DII.

Offense has not been the only phase of the game where Yong has made
an impact this season. Her play on the defensive end of the court
has been noteworthy as well. She is currently 3rd in the nation in
blocked shots and 9th in steals.
Lincoln College Coach Matt Vavro says he has been impressed with
Young’s work ethic and consistency during her time at LC. “Erynn has
been a leader at both ends of the floor for us, and it’s amazing how
much effort she puts in night in and night out,” he said.
Coach Vavro also noted that Young is a player who continues to seek
out ways to improve. “Even though she was our top scorer last year,
Erynn put in the time to improve her jump shot this year which has
made her an even better player,” he said.
The future looks bright for Young and her teammates as they head
into the final six games of the regular season. “We just need to
stay focused and confident in each other the rest of the way. As
long as we don’t beat ourselves, I know we can go far this year,”
said Young.
LC will host Region Rival Parkland College this Saturday at 1:00 PM.
