Alex Ovechkin recorded a goal
and three assists to reach 1,100 career points as the Washington
Capitals ended a two-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the
Minnesota Wild on Thursday night in Saint Paul, Minn.
Ovechkin scored his 34th goal of the season and 592nd of his career.
He leads the NHL in goals this season, and the one he scored
Thursday let him pass his total from last season. Ovechkin has four
goals and eight assists over the past seven games.
Andre Burakovsky helped on the Ovechkin goal, and his goal in the
third period produced a 3-0 lead. Minnesota lost in regulation at
home for the first time in 14 games.
Devils 5, Hurricanes 2
Stefan Noesen scored twice as New Jersey defeated visiting Carolina
for its first victory in regulation in a six-game stretch.
Noesen, who has seven goals this season, hadn't scored since Dec.
18, when he also scored twice in a game against the Anaheim Ducks.
Damon Severson, Kyle Palmieri and Nico Hischier also scored for the
Devils. Hischier registered two assists.
Islanders 3, Rangers 0
Jaroslav Halak made a career-high 50 saves as the New York Islanders
continued their recent mastery of the visiting New York Rangers.
Halak made 15 saves in the first period, 14 in the second and 21 in
the third en route to his first shutout since April 6 at Carolina.
Halak posted his 42nd career regular-season shutout and third
against the Rangers.
The Islanders beat the Rangers for the 10th time in the last 11
meetings by scoring a goal in each period and getting three assists
from rookie Matthew Barzal, who leads all first-year players with 46
assists and 62 points. Barzal has nine points in three meetings with
the Rangers and recorded his fourth game with at least three
assists.
Penguins 3, Kings 1
Matt Murray made 34 saves in his 100th career game to lead
Pittsburgh over Los Angeles, the Penguins' 10th straight home win.
Evgeni Malkin, Zach Aston-Reese and Ryan Reaves scored for the
Penguins, who recorded a home win streak of 10 or more games for the
sixth time in franchise history. The team record is 13-0-0 set from
Nov. 15, 2013, to Jan. 15, 2014.
Dion Phaneuf, acquired in a four-player trade with Ottawa on
Tuesday, scored the lone goal for Los Angeles, which dropped its
third straight game despite an outstanding performance in goal by
Jonathan Quick (36 saves).
Lightning 4, Red Wings 1
NHL points leader Nikita Kucherov had a goal and three assists,
Steve Stamkos scored twice and Tampa Bay defeated Detroit for the
11th consecutive time.
Kucherov's four-point night gave him 76 for the season. Alex Killorn
also scored for Tampa Bay, and Victor Hedman contributed three
assists. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 38 saves as the Lightning completed
a sweep of the four-game season series. Vasilevskiy has an NHL-high
34 victories.
The Lightning halted a two-game slide while the Red Wings have lost
four of their last six.
Senators 3, Sabres 2 (OT)
Mike Hoffman scored 73 seconds into overtime as Ottawa rallied for a
victory over visiting Buffalo.
Marian Gaborik had a goal and an assist in his Ottawa debut and set
up the tying goal by Derick Brassard with 31 seconds left in
regulation.

The Senators clinched their fourth straight home win when Erik
Karlsson faked a shot from the point to get Buffalo goaltender Robin
Lehner out of position. He whipped the puck to Hoffman, who
one-timed the pass from the left circle by Lehner, getting his 16th
goal while falling to his knee.
Ducks 3, Blackhawks 2
Adam Henrique scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third
period, and visiting Anaheim rallied for a victory over Chicago.
Nick Ritchie and Ondrej Kase also scored for Anaheim, which erased a
2-0 deficit to snap a two-game skid.
Chicago lost its eighth game in a row as its postseason hopes
continue to fade. Duncan Keith and Brandon Saad scored for the
Blackhawks, who have lost seven consecutive contests on home ice.
Flames 4, Predators 3
Mark Jankowski broke a tie early in the third period, and Curtis
Lazar netted the winner as Calgary held on for a win at Nashville.
Flames goalie David Rittich made 29 saves, 16 of them in the third
period, as Calgary concluded a 4-2-0 road trip on a high.
Nick Bonino made it a 4-3 game at 12:19 of the third, taking
advantage of a Rittich miscue while playing the puck and having an
easy tap-in goal. However, the hosts couldn't find the equalizer.
Coyotes 5, Canadiens 2
Brendan Perlini scored two goals, including the winner, just 19
seconds apart, and rookie Clayton Keller provided a goal and three
assists as Arizona beat visiting Montreal.
Perlini's two tallies came early in the second period as the
Coyotes, who rank last overall in the 31-team NHL, won their second
consecutive game. The Canadiens took their second loss in two
nights.
Tobias Rieder and Josh Archibald also scored for the Coyotes, while
Oliver Ekman-Larsson furnished three assists.
Golden Knights 4, Oilers 1
William Karlsson scored his Western Conference-leading 30th goal of
the season to help lead Vegas past visiting Edmonton.
Jonathan Marchessault, Ryan Carpenter and Erik Haula also scored
goals, and David Perron added a pair of assists for the Golden
Knights. Vegas became the first team in the Western Conference to
reach 80 points this season.
Marc-Andre Fleury finished with 28 saves for Vegas, which improved
to 14-1-1 in games against Pacific Division opponents. Leon
Draisaitl scored a goal and Cam Talbot had 24 saves for Edmonton,
which took its fifth straight loss.
Sharks 4, Canucks 1
Brent Burns, Chris Tierney and Mikkel Boedker each had a goal and an
assist as host San Jose dumped Vancouver.
Marcus Sorensen also scored for the Sharks, who posted their third
win in four games. San Jose goaltender Martin Jones posted a
season-high 43 saves.
Daniel Sedin scored for the Canucks, who have lost seven of their
past eight games. Vancouver netminder Anders Nilsson made 26 saves.
