Sean Couturier was the hero as the Philadelphia Flyers won in
Columbus for the first time in 12 tries with a 2-1 overtime victory
over the Blue Jackets on Friday night in Columbus.
Couturier netted the winner 1:52 into the overtime. He took a long
feed from Travis Konecny before racing into the offensive zone and
ripped a shot from his off-wing past Columbus goalie Sergei
Bobrovsky for his 29th goal of the season in a breakout campaign.
Couturier's previous career high for goals in a season was 15.
Goalie Michal Neuvirth made 35 saves for Philadelphia, which has won
its last six games decided in overtime. The Blue Jackets were a
perfect 6-0 in games decided by 3-on-3 play, but that wasn't the
only streak of theirs that fell on this night.
The Flyers had lost 11 straight games at Nationwide Arena, although
six of those defeats were in extra time, with their last victory
coming Dec. 13, 2005.
Stars 2, Blues 1
Stephen Johns' goal midway through the third period proved to be the
game-winner and Dallas goalkeeper Ben Bishop turned away 28 shots in
defeating visiting St. Louis.
The win allowed Dallas to pull into a tie with the Blues for third
place in the Central Division. The Stars are 6-1-0 in their past
seven games and 12-4-1 in their past 16 matches.
St. Louis, which owned a 29-16 edge in shots in the match, has lost
three in a row and is now 8-5-1 in its past 14 games.
Islanders 3, Hurricanes 0
A different goalie provided a similar result for New York as it
posted a shutout for the second night in a row, this time blanking
Carolina in Raleigh, N.C.

Thomas Greiss registered 45 saves in the shutout for only his second
victory in a two-month stretch. The Islanders rode goalie Jaroslav
Halak's 50-save performance to a 3-0 shutout of the New York Rangers
on Thursday night.
Defenseman Johnny Boychuk scored midway through the second period
and center Anthony Beauvillier padded the Isles' lead in the third
period. John Tavares added an empty-net goal with 32 seconds left
for his team-leading 30th tally of the season.
Jets 6, Avalanche 1
Blake Wheeler scored twice and added an assist and goalie Connor
Hellebuyck made 30 saves to collect his 30th win of the season as
Winnipeg blasted Colorado in Winnipeg.
Mark Scheifele collected three assists, giving him seven points in
four games since returning from a shoulder injury. Patrik Laine,
Tyler Myers and Dustin Byfuglien each had two-point games for the
Jets, who are 5-2-1 through eight games of their 10-game homestand.
Hellebuyck is the first Jets goalie to collect 30 wins in a season
since the franchise moved to Winnipeg in 2011-12.
