Lincoln (#15) got off to a strong start and was
leading by nine points at the end of the first quarter (18-9).
Their lead was extended to 11 at halftime as they went into the
locker room up 31-20. Parkland turned the tables on LC in the
third quarter by outscoring the Lady Lynx 22 to 16 and kept the
pressure on in the fourth to eventually take the lead. LC was
unable to hit enough shots down the stretch to regain the lead
and had to settle for the one-point defeat.
“We played great team defense in the first half holding them to
just 20 points,” said LC head coach Matt Vavro. “Parkland
started to get hot in the 2nd half and we unfortunately couldn’t
come up with the timely stops in the fourth quarter.”
Vavro remains positive about his team’s effort noting that, “In
games such as these, the margin for error is so small. I was
proud of the girl’s effort. They really gave it their all, just
came up a tad short.”
Sophomore Erynn Young (Indianapolis) led Lincoln in scoring with
20 points. She also contributed ten rebounds, three blocks and
three steals. Freshman Kaleia Montiero (Rockford) led LC in
rebounds with 17. Montiero also had 7 points. Freshman forward
Grace Schroeder (Gilman) had 9 points and 8 rebounds.
Lincoln (22-3) will host Olney CC at 5:30 PM on Tuesday.
