[February 26, 2018]    Defender Ruben Gabrielsen declined a high-priced offer to join a Major League Soccer team, he told Nettavisen, an online Norwegian newspaper.

Gabrielsen, 25, plays for Molde FK in the top division in Norway, his home country. He didn't identify the MLS team involved.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a former Manchester United player who now manages Molde, told Nettavisen of the MLS offer: "It was a bid that was so high and from such a good club that we chose to accept it. But Ruben (said, 'No thanks.')"

Gabrielsen said of the potential move, "It felt very wrong. I had not thought so far, and then I got the offer, and then felt very wrong right now and then. ... I have a family that I had not talked to properly, and then I took into account the others around me. The first priority is my family, and then we'll get back in time. That was how I thought."

In 2009, Gabrielsen became the youngest player for Lillestrom (17 years, 25 days) ever to appear in Norway's top league. He left Lillestrom for Molde in 2014. In 145 top-flight games for Molde, he has seven goals.

Gabrielsen has been selected to the Norwegian national team several times but has yet to make an appearance for his country.

According to MLSsoccer.com, Norwegian players in MLS include LA Galaxy forward Ola Kamara and defender Jorgen Skjelvik, Seattle Sounders midfielder Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Minnesota United defender Vadim Demidov.
