			First
			Presbyterian Calendar for January

			LINCOLN CHRISTIAN CHURCH

			204 N. McLean Street

			Wednesday Bible Study at
Join Dr. Bob Monts for a six-week study, starting January 10
entitled: “Turn Your Hearts Toward Home”,

			a study of 1 Peter.

“The letter came just when it was needed most. The situation was
undeniably bleak. They paid their taxes, served in the military, and
they did all they could to be good citizens. They ate the same food,
kept up with the current styles, and acted—for the most part—just
like any other upstanding person in their community. Yet, they were
misunderstood and mistreated, some even to the point of death. As a
group they were singled out by the highest governmental authority as
parasites upon the land. Many were tortured and killed while others
lost all of their possessions and became displaced wanderers.
Indeed, such a letter could not have come at a better time.”
These folks, having been dispersed throughout the Roman Empire, were
in dire need of encouragement. They need a “letter from home.” 1
Peter was just that-a letter that offered hope to a beleaguered and
hurting people. This study will examine what we can learn, living in
the 21st century, from those living in the 1st century. The study
will urge you to keep your eye on our true home and not our
temporary home. It will focus on how to live as one who doesn't fit
			here, but there.
