Obituary
Betty Rae Olson, 94, of Funks Grove,
passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 17, 2017, at
Martin Health Center in Bloomington. A private
family service is planned for a later date at Funks
Grove Church in rural McLean with Rev. Dr. Donald J.
Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Funks
Grove Cemetery. Remembrances and gifts may be sent
in care of Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.
Memorials may be made to the McLean United Methodist
Church or the Westminster Village Foundation.
Betty was born May 26, 1923, in Waynesville, the
daughter of Ray and Emily Peterson Johnston. She
married Harry "Bus" Olson of Wapella on Nov. 16,
1941. Harry preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 2009.
Also preceding her in death were her beloved sister,
Ingristine Pitts of Bloomington, and her brother,
Wilbur Johnston of Memphis, Mo.
Surviving are her four children: Susan (Steve)
Kopetz of Seattle, Wash., Harry A. (Marsha) Olson of
Cape Coral, Fla., John (Linda) Olson of Bloomington,
and Mike (Bonnie) Olson of Shirley. Also surviving
are seven grandchildren and twelve
great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much. |
Starting out in DeWitt County and moving to Funks
Grove in the early 1950s, Betty and her husband Harry enjoyed each
other's company for nearly seventy years while raising family and
farming in the McLean area. Betty was a member of the McLean United
Methodist church. She was a great cook and baker. Betty loved
playing bridge with her club partners. She also enjoyed the company
of her many fine neighbors, church, and "supper club" friends, and
the exceptional caring staff at Martin Center. She will be greatly
missed by all!
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of
Atlanta.
