Jake Dotchin netted his third
goal of the season with just over 10 minutes left in regulation to
break a deadlock, and Tyler Johnson's hat-trick tally minutes later
served as the game-winner as the Tampa Bay Lightning claimed a 5-4
win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday in Tampa, Fla.
The Lightning needed both goals to close out the see-saw affair, as
the visitors nearly completed a comeback in the dying minutes.
Johnson posted the first three-goal game of the season for a Tampa
Bay player, even though the high-flying Lightning sit atop the
league standings and boast the NHL's most potent attack.
Brayden Point had three assists for the Lightning, who also got a
goal and an assist from Victor Hedman. Brock McGinn, Sebastian Aho,
Justin Faulk and Elias Lindholm scored for Carolina.
Predators 2, Oilers 1
Pekka Rinne stopped 25 shots as Nashville edged visiting Edmonton
2-1 for its 11th consecutive win against the Oilers and Rinne's 10th
straight victory against them, dating back to March 18, 2014.
The Predators won their second straight game before going into a
five-day break. Edmonton absorbed its seventh defeat in eight games
and has managed just four goals in its past six games.
The latest defeat might have been the most frustrating for the
Oilers, who appeared to tie the game at 14:56 of the third period
when Mark Letestu knocked a rebound past Rinne. However, Nashville
coach Peter Laviolette challenged the goal on the basis of offside.
Replay revealed that Jujhar Khaira had a skate in the zone and
another one in the air before the puck entered the offensive zone,
and the goal was erased.
Flames 3, Wild 2 (OT)
Dougie Hamilton scored the winning goal for the second straight game
as Calgary beat Minnesota in overtime at St. Paul, Minn., giving the
Flames their first four-game winning streak of the season.
Johnny Gaudreau assisted all three goals, including Hamilton's
winner, for a Flames team that recovered from blowing a two-goal,
third-period lead. Micheal Ferland and Sean Monahan also scored for
Calgary.
Mikael Granlund and Jared Spurgeon collected the Minnesota goals.
Panthers 7, Blues 4
Florida scored three consecutive second-period goals -- all in a
span of 4:14 -- to defeat host St. Louis.

The Panthers, who rallied from an early 2-0 deficit, got three
points each from Jonathan Huberdeau (one goal, two assists),
Trocheck (two goals, one assist) and Aleksander Barkov (one goal,
two assists).
Panthers goalie James Reimer, making his 15th straight start, earned
the win, making 26 saves. Blues goalie Jake Allen (18 saves) was
chased with 3:23 left in the second period, immediately following
the fifth Panthers goal.
Blackhawks 8, Senators 2
Nick Schmaltz and Jonathan Toews each scored two goals, while
Patrick Kane doled out four assists in a five-goal second period as
visiting Chicago routed Ottawa.
Jordan Oesterle and Duncan Keith added two helpers apiece for
Chicago, while goalie Anton Forsberg) stopped 25 shots to pick up
the win and also chipped in an assist. Patrick Sharp contributed a
goal and an assist as the Blackhawks drove Ottawa goalie Craig
Anderson to cover before the second period was half over.
Kane added a goal on a five-point night, and Schmaltz also had an
assist.
Capitals 3, Canucks 1
John Carlson and Lars Eller set the tone with first-period goals,
and Washington extended its winning streak to a season-high five
games with a victory over visiting Vancouver.
Washington goalie Philipp Grubauer, starting for the first time
since Dec. 27, finished with 37 saves. The Capitals have won 10
consecutive home games, the longest streak in the NHL this season.
Vancouver is trending the opposite way, having dropped its fifth
consecutive game. The Canucks have won just twice in their past 15
matchups.
Jets 7, Sabres 4
Kyle Connor finished with two goals and one assist, and Nikolaj
Ehlers scored twice as Winnipeg defeated host Buffalo.
Ehlers scored both of his goals in the second period as the Jets
notched three and chased Buffalo starting goalie Robin Lehner.
Winnipeg has won three in a row and is 6-0-1 in its past seven
games.
Jack Eichel had two goals and an assist for Buffalo.
