Jay Beagle scored with 1.2
seconds remaining to lift the Washington Capitals to a 4-3 win over
the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday in Raleigh, N.C.
Beagle, who snapped a 14-game scoring drought, skated down the right
side of the ice and seemed to surprise Carolina goaltender Cam Ward
after Nicklas Backstrom delivered the puck from the other side of
the ice.
Carolina led late in the third period before Washington's Brett
Connolly scored unassisted with 3:08 remaining to even the score at
3. Connolly converted off a turnover by Hurricanes defenseman Noah
Hanifin.
Jeff Skinner scored 1:49 into the third period to give Carolina a
3-2 lead. Washington's Alex Ovechkin scored his 28th goal of the
season, and teammate Lars Eller scored a goal for the fourth game in
a row.
Blackhawks 2, Jets 1
David Kampf scored his first NHL goal to make his 23rd birthday
truly worth celebrating, and goaltender Jeff Glass stopped 31 shots
to lead Chicago past visiting Winnipeg.
Kampf also collected an assist to net his first career two-point
game. Glass improved his record for the Blackhawks to 3-1-1.
Kampf broke a scoreless deadlock nearly five minutes into the second
period, and Jan Rutta doubled the lead late in the middle period.
Patrik Laine scored unassisted for the Jets at 16:19 of the third
period.
Canucks 5, Blue Jackets 2
Brendan Gaunce's power-play goal in the second period proved to be
the winner as the Vancouver won in Columbus, Ohio.
Gaunce scored only his second goal in the past two seasons. He went
all of 2016-17 without scoring. Sven Baertschi, Erik Gudbranson,
Alexander Edler and Jake Virtanen added goals for the Canucks, who
posted their third win in the past 16 games.
Seth Jones and Scott Harrington each scored for the Blue Jackets,
who took their second consecutive loss.

Oilers 4, Coyotes 2
Darnell Nurse's second goal of the game completed Edmonton's
comeback from an early two-goal deficit en route to a win in
Glendale, Ariz.
Oilers goalie Al Montoya, who entered in relief after starting
netminder Cam Talbot surrendered two goals in just over three
minutes of play, stopped all 19 shots he faced to earn his first
victory for the club that acquired him via trade from the Montreal
Canadiens on Jan. 4.
Nurse netted the winner at 3:57 of the third period when he unloaded
a slap shot from the top of the left circle that cleanly beat
Arizona goalie Antti Raanta. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' empty-net goal
with 20 seconds left sealed the victory.
Flames 4, Panthers 2
Calgary, led by backup goalie David Rittich, extended its
season-best win streak to six games, earning the victory in Sunrise,
Fla.
A 25-year-old native of the Czech Republic who was playing just the
sixth NHL game of his career, Rittich stopped 41 shots and improved
to 4-1-1.
Calgary got goals from Sean Monahan, Matthew Tkachuk, Johnny
Gaudreau and Mikael Backlund. Florida's Evgenii Dadonov ended a
slump by posting his eighth and ninth goals of the season.
