LaVine, 22, was a key component of a draft-day
deal that sent All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota
Timberwolves. The Bulls also acquired guard Kris Dunn in the
deal and moved up nine spots in the first round to select
forward Lauri Markkanen at No. 7 overall.
Chicago coach Fred Hoiberg plans to limit LaVine's playing time
to about 20 minutes against the Knicks. LaVine has not played
since Feb. 3, when he tore his left ACL in a game against the
Detroit Pistons.
LaVine averaged 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 47
games with the Timberwolves last season, which marked his third
year in the league. The former UCLA standout joins a rebuilding
Bulls team that sees him as a long-term centerpiece for the
franchise.
