On Saturday, the Lincoln College Women’s Basketball team pushed
their record to 15-1 with a 75-64 win at Carl Sandburg College.
Lincoln led by four at the end of the first quarter and extended
their lead to nine at the half (33-24). In the second half, both
teams made offensive adjustments that resulted in a high-scoring
quarter. Sandburg was able to score 22 points in the period, but LC
kept pace by scoring 24 to further extend their lead. The two teams
played evenly in the final quarter of play to seal the win for
Lincoln.
Sophomore Erynn Young (Indianapolis) was a force to be reckoned with
as she led the Lady Lynx in scoring with 27 points and an incredible
total of 20 rebounds. Young also had 3 assists, 4 steals and 6
blocks.

Sophomore point guard Nautica Preston (Chicago) had 16 points, while
freshman Allysah Boothe (Chicago) had 14. Freshman forward Kaleia
Monteiro (Rockford) turned in a strong performance as well by
scoring 8 points and pulling down 8 rebounds.
Lincoln Coach Matt Vavro was impressed with his team’s play. “I
liked the way we went after loose balls and on the boards,” said
Vavro. “Similarly to the 1st time we played them, we missed a bunch
of layups and open shots on the perimeter that allowed them to hang
around in the 4th quarter. We were fortunate enough to get some big
stops on the defensive end to close it out.”
LC will open up their Region 24 schedule on Wednesday evening as
they host Illinois Central College at 5:30 PM.
