Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy
stopped all 40 shots he faced for his league-leading seventh shutout
of the season as the Tampa Bay Lightning held on for a 2-0 win over
the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night at the United Center.
Chris Kunitz and Yanni Gourde scored for Tampa Bay, which snapped a
three-game losing streak. Tampa Bay leads the Eastern Conference
with 67 points in 47 games.
Chicago lost its third game in a row and dropped to 1-4-0 in its
past five contests. The Blackhawks were shut out for the fourth time
this season and for the second time in the past three games.
Vasilevskiy stopped 13 shots in the first period, 17 shots in the
second and 10 in the third to collect the 11th shutout of his
career. The 23-year-old tied the franchise record for shutouts in a
single season, matching Nikolai Khabibulin's total during the
2001-02 campaign.
Red Wings 3, Devils 0
Reserve goaltender Petr Mrazek posted his second consecutive shutout
and Detroit downed New Jersey at the Prudential Center.
Mrazek turned aside 37 shots while notching his third shutout of the
season. He blanked Chicago 4-0 on Jan. 14. The Red Wings lost their
last two games with Jimmy Howard in goal.
Mrazek became the first Wings goaltender to record back-to-back
shutouts since Dominik Hasek in January 2008.
Avalanche 4, Maple Leafs 2
The longest winning streak by any team in the National Hockey League
this season just got a little longer.
Blake Comeau scored the game-winning goal with 7:43 remaining to
help Colorado win its 10th consecutive game with a triumph over
Toronto at Air Canada Centre.
The Avalanche also won their seventh straight game in regulation.
They now have 57 points on the year and sit just two points behind
St. Louis for third place in the Central Division.
Wild 3, Senators 1
With a snowstorm raging outside a half-full Xcel Energy Center,
Minnesota emerged with a win over Ottawa in St. Paul, Minn.

Jason Zucker's third-period goal was the difference-maker, as
Minnesota improved to 7-0-2 in its past nine home games. It was the
fourth consecutive game with a goal for Zucker, who is tied for the
team lead with 19.
Zach Parise and Mikael Granlund also scored for Minnesota, and Alex
Stalock had 37 saves in his eighth win of the season.
Coyotes 3, Islanders 2 (OT)
Nick Cousins scored his second goal of the game 2:21 into overtime,
lifting Arizona to a win over New York at Gila River Arena in
Glendale, Ariz.
Cousins' seventh goal of the season was set up by Christian Fischer,
who took the puck away and fed Cousins for a backhander that gave
Arizona its second straight win. It was just the Coyotes' 12th
victory in 49 games, allowing them to snap a tie with Buffalo for
the fewest points in the NHL.
New York forced overtime with Anthony Beauvillier's second goal of
the game and 12th of the season at 2:53 of the third period, giving
him seven markers in the last six games. Beauvillier collected the
rebound of Thomas Hickey's shot in the right circle and roofed a
one-timer over Antti Raanta.
Sabres 2, Flames 1 (OT)
Jack Eichel scored the winning goal just as a power play expired and
Chad Johnson stopped 32 shots to beat his former team as Buffalo
claimed an overtime victory against Calgary in Calgary, Alberta.
Eichel, who had seven shots on goal in the affair, unloaded a
one-timer set up by Rasmus Ristolainen for his 19th goal of the
season while the Sabres were essentially still on a four-on-three
advantage since Calgary's Mikael Backlund wasn't able to get back in
the play from the penalty box.
It's the first time the Sabres have won at the Scotiabank Saddledome
since early in the 2003-04 season. Calgary had won the seven
previous meetings in the Stampede City. Buffalo also snapped a
two-game losing skid.
