Obituary
John T. Brandt, 94, of Atlanta,
passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at his
home, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Mr. Brandt's funeral will be Thursday, January 18,
2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Atlanta Christian Church.
Mr. Dave Harmon will officiate. Burial will follow
at Atlanta Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m.
until 11:00 a.m. at the church.
John T. was born July 4, 1923, in rural Atlanta, the
son of Oran and Anna Bode Brandt. He married Emma
Lou Colaw on June 22, 1947, in Atlanta. She
survives. The couple recently celebrated their 70th
wedding anniversary.
Surviving Mr. Brandt are his children: Hank (Becky)
Brandt, Atlanta; Peggy (Mike) Shanahan, Denver; and
Patti (Fred) Metz, Allen Tex.; six grandchildren:
Carrie Kieser, Kyle Shanahan, Andy Brandt, Krystal
Sachs, Katy Metz, and Jake Metz; and fifteen
great-grandchildren: Emma, Eli, Ethan, Ean, Stella,
Carter, Lexie, William, Ben, Connor, Jed, Lauren,
Aubrey, Reece, and Jordan.
John was preceded in death by his parents and two
sisters.

John T. graduated from Atlanta High
School and attended the University of Illinois in
Champaign before entering the military. He proudly
served in World War II in the U.S. Army. John T. was
a life-long farmer and developed his own
agricultural business. John served his community in
numerous capacities. He was an active member of the
Atlanta Christian Church, served on the Atlanta
School and Logan County Boards, and held memberships
in Rotary International, Shriners International, and
Masonic Lodge 165.
John T. was a devout family man who loved his wife
deeply and cherished time with his children and
grandchildren. Our family will always remember him
as a loyal and loving husband, father, and
grandfather, with a tremendous work ethic and
outstanding character. He loved his winters in Las
Vegas and his summers spent rooting for the Cubbies!
Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Christian
Church or Alzheimer's Association.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home of Atlanta.
