NBA roundup: Simmons posts triple-double in Sixers' win

[January 25, 2018]  Ben Simmons posted a triple-double consisting of 19 points, 17 rebounds and 14 assists, leading the Philadelphia 76ers past the visiting Chicago Bulls 115-101 Wednesday night.

Simmons registered his fifth career triple-double in just his 43rd NBA game. Only Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook (14) and Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James (seven) have more triple-doubles than Simmons this season.

Joel Embiid scored 22 points, Dario Saric added 21 points and 10 rebounds and Robert Covington contributed 16 points for the Sixers.

Bobby Portis led Chicago with 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Zach LaVine scored 21 points.

Pelicans 101, Hornets 96

Jrue Holiday and Anthony Davis both scored 19 points as New Orleans defeated host Charlotte.

DeMarcus Cousins added 16 points and 13 rebounds and E'Twaun Moore had 11 points for the Pelicans, who won for the sixth time in their past seven games. They were playing their lone road game during a six-game stretch.

Dwight Howard, appearing in his 1,000th regular-season game in the NBA, posted 22 points and 16 rebounds for Charlotte. Howard also was assessed his 10th technical foul of the season.

Jazz 98, Pistons 95 (OT)

Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert scored 15 points apiece, and Joe Ingles made two pivotal 3-pointers in overtime, lifting visiting Utah past slumping Detroit.

Ingles finished with 13 points for the Jazz, who overcame a huge outing by the Pistons' Andre Drummond and a seven-point deficit in the final three minutes of regulation. Ricky Rubio supplied 11 points and 10 rebounds for Utah, and Joe Johnson added 11 points off the bench.

Drummond recorded the second 30-20 game of his career with 30 points and 24 rebounds to go along with four assists and six blocks. Ish Smith contributed 14 points for Detroit, which has lost six straight.

Pacers 116, Suns 101

Thaddeus Young scored 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting as Indiana routed Phoenix in Indianapolis.

Victor Oladipo was right behind with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting and delivered nine assists for the Pacers. Domantas Sabonis scored 19, hitting 8 of 12 shots, and added eight rebounds. Bojan Bogdanovic added 17 for Indiana.

Josh Jackson was high for Phoenix with 20 points, hitting 7 of 11 shots. Devin Booker and Troy Daniels each scored 19 for the Suns, who have lost five of the past six games.

Raptors 108, Hawks 93

Fred VanVleet came off the bench to score 19 points, leading Toronto to a rout of host Atlanta in a matchup between one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and one of the worst.

Jonas Valanciunas had 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Raptors, who never trailed. DeMar DeRozan scored 14 points, Serge Ibaka had 12 and OG Anunoby added 10 to lead the way for Toronto.

 

Dennis Schroder had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Kent Bazemore and John Collins each scored 13 points in defeat for the Hawks.

Rockets 104, Mavericks 97

James Harden keyed a sizzling start and, after a sluggish second quarter, Houston caught fire again in the third in a victory at Dallas

Harden finished with 25 points and 13 assists. Trevor Ariza added 23 points for Houston, Eric Gordon had 17 points, and Clint Capela finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Wesley Matthews finished with a game-high 29 points and converted 7 of 14 3-point attempts, but the Mavericks lost for the fourth time in five games.

Spurs 108, Grizzlies 85

Pau Gasol had 14 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists as one of eight San Antonio players to score in double figures, and the visiting Spurs topped Memphis.

Patty Mills led San Antonio with 15 points off the bench. Danny Green and Bryn Forbes hit for 14 each, Tony Parker scored 12, Dejounte Murray and Davis Bertans added 11 points each and Joffrey Lauvergne tallied 10 for the Spurs.

Marc Gasol paced Memphis with 18 points while Deyonta Davis added 12 and Dillon Brooks scored 10 for the Grizzlies.

Celtics 113, Clippers 102

Kyrie Irving amassed 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to help Boston snap its four-game skid and avoid back-to-back losses in Los Angeles.

Jayson Tatum scored 18 points and both Marcus Morris and Terry Rozier had 15 for the Celtics, who were defeated by the Lakers 108-107 on Tuesday night. Boston avoided its first five-game losing streak since Nov. 21-Dec. 2, 2014.

Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 23 points, and Lou Williams added 20 off the bench as Los Angeles dropped its third straight after a season-best, six-game winning streak. DeAndre Jordan totaled 15 points and 14 rebounds in his return from a five-game absence caused by a left ankle injury.

Trail Blazers 123, Timberwolves 114

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined for 59 points as Portland topped visiting Minnesota.

Lillard scored 31 points and McCollum added 28 for the Trail Blazers, who won their seventh straight home game. Al-Farouq Aminu had 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting -- including 3-for-4 from 3-point range -- and seven rebounds for the Blazers.

Andrew Wiggins scored 24 points and Jamal Crawford added 19 off the bench for the Timberwolves, who had won six of their previous eight games.
