Lincoln was one of those communities in central
Illinois holding a rally along with Bloomington, Springfield, and
Champaign.
A group gathered at the Logan County Courthouse at 10
a.m. to march and display placards opposing the forced separation of
migrants crossing the border.

“Even though an executive order was signed eliminating the
policy, many children who were taken from their parents before it was signed are
in detention centers all over the country with no contact with their parents,”
said Rebecca Drake, chairperson of the Logan County Democrats. She added “there
is a problem establishing the identity of these kids and locating their
parents.”
One particpant said “We are all descendants of immigrants and
need to respect those who face significant hurdles to get to the United States.”
Ferguson held a large photo of the Statue of Liberty, and said “Lady Liberty
welcomes people from all over the world.”
