Obituary
Marvin D. Southerlan passed away
peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, June
28, 2018 in Phoenix, AZ.
Marv was born in McLean, on October 19, 1939, to
Everett and Dorothy Southerlan. He grew up in Beason
and McLean as well as Sesser. Marv served in the
Army from 1962 to 1968. He married Janet Kerpan in
1963 in Lincoln. Marv and Janet moved from
Springfield to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1970, and in
1971 their daughter Dena was born.
Beginning in 1975 Marv owned and managed ORCO
Construction Supply stores in Arizona and later
expanded into Nevada. Marv retired in 1995 and in
2001 Marv and Janet began splitting their time
between Scottsdale, Arizona and the Vail Valley of
Colorado, where Marv came out of retirement and they
both worked with their daughter.
They also spent time at their second home in
Flagstaff for 22 years. Marv was an avid golfer and
enjoyed traveling to many places, especially the
Hawaiian Islands.
He was a very kind and generous husband, father,
employer, and friend, and he will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Janet
Kerpan-Southerlan, daughter, Dena Southerlan-Clapp,
son-in-law, Kirk Clapp, twin brother, Merlin
Southerlan, younger brother, Everett Southerlan,
plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Clubhouse
at 4800 N. 68th St., in Scottsdale, at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, July 14th.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice
of the West in Phoenix. |
