Multiple media outlets reported that the
contract is worth $4.25 million.
The 26-year-old restricted free agent scored 19 goals and added
16 assists while playing in all 82 games last season. For his
career, the Islanders' 2010 first-round pick -- 30th overall --
has 99 goals and 89 assists in 398 games.
Nelson is one of the more reliable players in the NHL, missing
just two games over the past four seasons.
The Minnesota native, who posted a career-high 26 goals in
2015-16, is coming off a three-year, $7.5 million deal. He
originally opted for arbitration, rejecting the team's $3.5
million qualifying offer in late June.
The transaction wraps up the team's RFA arbitration season as
Nelson was the only Islander who chose to go that route. The
sides were scheduled for an Aug. 3 arbitration hearing before
Monday's announcement.
In 2016-17, Nelson recorded career highs with 25 assists and 45
points. He also has three goals and four assists in 18 career
postseason games.
